Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer 69: Miscellaneous Updates

Date:

What to expect from Final Fantasy XIV’s patch 6.1.

Besides new content, 6.1 will also see some improvements. Minor teaks and a few additions here and there. Here we have a short list of what’s to come mid April.

New Game+

Since story is such an important part of Final Fantasy XIV, the team has added a New Game+ feature allowing players to relive the games quests in all their glory. The only set back is that you won’t be able to claim quest rewards again. With 6.1 we’ll not only see the ability to replay Endwalker, but it’s also going to add parts of the by then released 6.1 patch.

Final Fantasy XIV's Letter from the Producer 69 "What's to come in patch 6.1" slide; showing dot points of updates including housing, new Hrothgar hairstyles and other miscellaneous updates

New Hrothgar, New Me

We’re also going to see Hrothgar not only able to change their hairstyle, they’re also gonna be able to change into a few new models. We don’t know yet how those will look, but they’re most likely going to be spins on what other races have currently.

What wasn’t on the slide, but Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida mentioned is that Viera will also see a few more hairstyles added to their selection. We still haven’t heard anything about the female Hrothgar just yet, but we’ve been promised that we’ll get them either sometime in the 6.X cycle of patches or with the release of 7.0.

Glamour me More

There never seem to be enough glamour plates to go around. And there is never enough space for all the items you might want to wear. So with 6.1 players will now be able to have up to 20 glamour plates. Which is a significant upgrade from the 15 we currently have. Players will also be able to change glamour plates outside of cities. Glamours can be applied in any area the game marks as a ‘sanctuary’. Which is usually a town or anywhere near an aetheryte.

In addition to that, players will also be able to try on items from Final Fantasy XIV’s cash shop. While Yoshida is vehemently against the idea of tying the cash shop directly to the game, players want try on items before buying them. The compromise is that players will only be able to try on these items in one of the 3 major cities when going to bed.

The Unending Codex

Tataru's file is seen in the Unending Codex, featuring a profile picture of the scion with the text content redacted.

While there is a glossary for mechanics and UI and whatnot for Final Fantasy XIV’s content — there isn’t one for all the wild in game terms and characters. With 6.1, the team will include the Unending Codex. This handy little book will fill up during your adventure’s and will further explain characters and terms as the story fills you in on them. While we don’t know the full extent of this feature just yet. It’s meant for players who plan to jump into the story of Final Fantasy XIV now. That way you’ll be able to quickly find out why a character might like or dislike you. Or what aether is and why it is so important.

Adventure Plates

There is not much we know about this feature, just that its supposed to be a way to make your character presentable in game. Imagine it as a kind of business card, only for a famous monster killer. While you don’t have to engage with this feature, it will be highly customizable and there will also be a number of features to unlock for it. You’ll also be able to make different plate for each of your gearsets. We’ll hopefully find out more about this feature in the next Live Letter.

QoL for the Market Board and Collections

With 6.1 Final Fantasy XIV will make it just a little bit easier for you to go through the market board and search that mount you always wanted. Not only that, the game will now also tell you if you already have one of its many collectables. Be it a minion, mount or orchestrion roll.  And for the fashion accessories lovers, there’s also going to be a new idle animation for the parasols.

Ishgard Housing

One of 6.1 most anticipated features by far, is the ability to finally live up in Coerthas. For that the game will see a slight overhaul of its housing system. Now players will no longer have to spam-click a sign to get the plot they want. Instead you just have to front the Gil and enter a lottery. So camping plots for hours on end will hopefully no longer be a thing. The Empyreum will release with 24 wards like previous districts. This will add another 1440 housing plots to each server. How exactly the lottery system is going to work, and when those plots are up for purchase is still to be seen. But here’s a list with all the plot prices, so you can save up, you still have a month and a half!

Fifth-class Plot Fourth-class Plot Third-class Plot Second-class Plot First-class Plot
Small 3,000,000 3,187,500 3,375,000 3,562,500 3,750,000
Medium 16,000,000 17,000,000 18,000,000 19,000,000 20,000,000
Large 40,000,000 42,500,000 45,000,000 47,500,000 50,000,000
