‘Fae Farm’, ‘Anonymous;Code’, ‘NBA 2K24’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Date:

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 8th, 2023. We’ve hit the end of the week, and I think we’ve got a better batch of titles today than we had yesterday to look at. Fae Farm, NBA 2K24, Anonymous;Code, and Night at the Gates of Hell are the highlights, but you might find a few other things to like in the list. After that, we’ve got a robust list of new sales, plus the expiring deals for the weekend. Let’s get to work so we can enjoy the weekend!

New Releases

Fae Farm ($59.99)

Farming! It’s hip, it’s now, it’s wow, and how! This one can be enjoyed by up to four players via local wireless or online multiplayer. It’s farming, but magical. Explore the island, gather materials, build up your homestead, battle enemies, make friends with the locals, and so on. Our pal Mikhail is going to have a review of this one for us early next week, so do look forward to that. He’s a lot less exhausted with this particular genre than I am.

NBA 2K24 Kobe Bryant Edition ($59.99)

Clear out fifty GB of memory space and get ready for the latest version of the NBA 2K series. It’s still trading off Kobe Bryant’s name and imagery, which I’m going to say is starting to feel the slightest bit tacky. But if you love Bryant, you can enjoy the mode that takes you through the highlights of his career. Otherwise, it’s the usual NBA 2K game, making a few refinements here and there but for the most part coasting thanks to a near-total lack of any meaningful competition. Take it or leave it.

Anonymous;Code ($59.99)

The latest visual novel from Steins;Gate creator Chiyomaru Shikura and some of the staff that worked on the Science Adventure series, Anonymous;Code follows the adventure of a hacker named Pollon Takaoka who lives in the futuristic year of 2037. He gets pulled into a real mess when he meets a mysterious young woman named Momo, and the only way forward is to hack reality itself. Yes, this is a story about hacking the world. If you enjoyed the other Science Adventure games, this is an easy recommendation. I’ll have a full review soon but I can say at this moment that I deeply enjoyed the game and its compelling story.

Big Adventure: Trip to Europe 4 Collector’s Edition ($14.99)

Yes, another one of these. Find the objects. Pretty pictures. European theme. Not my thing. Maybe yours.

Sprout Valley ($17.99)

Yes, okay, throw another log on the fire. A cat is tired of the hustle and bustle of city life and decides to give it all up and become a farmer. You know how this works. Grow crops, sell them, gather materials, go fishing, and just live that general slow life. As usual for a RedDeer game, the standard price is ridiculous for what you get here. And I suspect the publisher knows it, because there’s the usual day one 70%+ off discount. I have to believe you can find better games like this at or around this price point, but I will admit that a cat who can own pets has some sort of sicko appeal to me.

Night at the Gates of Hell ($14.99)

From the makers of the well-regarded Bloodwash comes another PlayStation 1-inspired low poly survival horror game. It’s a chapter-based affair, with each tasking you with some exploration, puzzle-solving, combat, and item collection. Make sure to aim for the heads if you want to survive this zombie apocalypse. This one has been out on Steam for a while now, and it seems to be very well-liked there. I’ll have to take people’s word for it, as my abject cowardice when faced with all things scary means I will not play this.

Crowd City ($4.99)

You have a small group and you need to run around the town absorbing people to make your group bigger, which allows you to absorb more people into it. Kind of Katamari-ish, I suppose. I’m not sure I would spend a fiver on this, but I am but one human in a sea of billions.

Seduce Me – The Complete Story ($9.99)

In this visual novel, you’re a young woman who has inherited an estate from her rich grandfather. When she arrives to check it out, she finds five hunky yet injured guys there. It turns out they are demons, which should be cause for alarm but, you know, roll with it. Make your choices and you might just get some smooching going on with one of them. You actually get two games here plus a number of mini-episodes, so it’s a solid value if you dig what it’s doing.

Show Ball: Tiger Life ($6.54)

A pretty simple game in principle, one that requires touch controls and thus can’t be played on your TV. The idea here is that you have to get the ball into the bucket with one shot. There are two hundred stages as you might guess things get pretty complicated before long. It vaguely reminds me of silly things like Bacon – The Game, though it isn’t quite as charming in its execution.

The Bin Bunch

Troopers ($9.99)

The Hunt ($3.99)

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Boltgun is on sale for its lowest price so far, and if you like what we seem to be calling boomer shooters, you’ll love it. I’ll also point out Playdate transplant Hyper Meteor, also hitting a low price. Not much in the outbox I feel strongly about, so feel free to spend your money on new games and sales. Check both lists anyway, of course.

That’s all for today and this week, friends. We’ll be back next week with more new games, more sales, some reviews, and perhaps some news. An odd week this was, but next week should see business start to pick up. If nothing else, the first part of the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC is coming. I’d check what else is on the way, but it’s fun to leave some surprises. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
