Best Suit Tech upgrades in Spider-Man 2 for PS5

Date:

Suit Tech upgrades are new to Spider-Man 2, and are essentially passive increases to your damage, health, movement speed, and Focus. You’ll have to purchase these upgrades over the course of the campaign, and make choices on which perks you’d like to unlock and use first. And that’s where I come in.

In this Spider-Man 2 guide, I’ll walk you through how Suit Tech upgrades work, which ones you want to prioritize first, and help you pick which of the choice node perks are best for you.

[Spoiler Warning: This guide shows the complete Skill Tech guide and discusses some very minor spoilers regarding currency and activities]

How do Suit Tech upgrades work?

Both Miles and Peter will get their passive upgrades from the Suit Tech trees, which allow you to choose from Health, Damage, Focus, and Traversal.

Each of these upgrades is more expensive than the last the further you get down the tree, so you’ll likely end up with a few points down one tree before purchasing some additional upgrades in another. As for your currency, you’ll be using all four token types with the Suit Tech tree, so you can’t just focus your time farming Tech Parts if you want to boost your Spidey power.

One interesting wrinkle with this system is that each tree has two choice nodes for you to select. The third and sixth upgrade always offers you two different perks, and you’ll only be able to have one of them active at a time. Thankfully, when you buy these perks you’ll also unlock their other option, so swapping between them just takes a quick trip to the menu.

Which upgrade order is best?

The Focus tree is going to give you the most diverse and meaningful upgrades. You’ll get additional Focus meters, more ways of generating Focus, and even a cheat-death ability if you need it. This makes Focus a really valuable investment.

However, if you neglect Health or Damage, you’re going to have a bad time. These may just be boring stab-block updates, but they’re crucial for some of the late-game combat encounters where both enemies and bosses hit hard and have tons of health.

Traversal is primarily a luxury investment. The city does feel incredible to move around once you’ve maxed out the Traversal tree, but none of the upgrades will really help you during the campaign.

I’d recommend spreading your upgrade points around between Focus, Damage, and Health, with Focus being your biggest priority to max first.

Health

Almost all of these upgrades are just increases to your max HP, which is boring, but important.

Your first decision point here is if you want to do Confidence Boost (which heals you when you perform a Perfect Dodge) or Rejuvenating Parry (which heals you when you Parry). Of the two, I recommend Confidence Boost, as dodging is typically what I default to. However, Rejuvenating Parry is also good if you find it fits your playstyle better.

The second choice is between The Best Defense (heal on every 10th hit of a combo) or Life Link (web-shooter hits heal you). Life Link is the no-brainer choice here, as it’s usable far more often and ranged.

Damage

Similar to Health, the Damage tree primarily just improves how much damage you deal per-punch. Damage is important but, again, boring.

Your choice nodes are more interesting here than in Health, however. The first choice is between Air Marshal (deal increased damage to airborne enemies) and Focused Parry (parrying attacks partially recharges abilities). Ability recharge is very powerful in Spider-Man 2, but I recommend Air Marshal, as it pairs very well with another ability later in this tree.

Your options for the second choice nodes here are Combo King (gain some ability energy for every 10th hit in your combo) and The Floor is Lava (successive Air Attacks gain increased damage, but this bonus resets when you land). Again, energy recharge is great but 10 hits is just too long to wait for an effect like this. The Floor is Lava, on the other hand, pairs magically with Air Marshal to help you deal some massive damage.

Focus

There are some really important upgrades in the Focus tree, and neither are the choice nodes.

Double Focus (gain a second Focus bar) and Triple Focus (gain a third Focus bar) are the best upgrades here, and we recommend you grab both as early as you can.

As for the choice nodes, I recommend Focused Strike (gain 10% bonus Focus when using abilities) over Target Acquisition (automatically tag enemies you see with Scan) as it’s generally more useful.

For the second choice node, it’s actually best to swap between them as needed. Eyes on Target (while in stealth, scanning shows which enemies can see your current target) is helpful for stealth combat, but you only need to be stealthy in some of Spider-Man 2’s missions. Perfect Sight (slows time before taking a critical hit once per fight) is mostly useful for boss fights, but is also a general use tool in the open world.

Traversal

Traversal is all about speed, and most upgrades will just help you move faster with your web wings or while swinging.

If you want to make swinging through NYC feel better for as little investment as possible, you want to pick up the Amazing Launch (adds a boost to your Point Launch when you hit jump after a web zip) upgrade and then select the Acrobat (Point Launch is now max power) upgrade in the first choice node instead of Charged (Charge Jump and Slingshot Launch send you further and higher).

As for the final upgrade node, grab All Seeing (Reveal Tech Crates and Spider-Bots mini-map) first until you’ve collected all of the Spider-Bots — All Seeing only works on the mini-map, so check out my Spider-Bots guide for some help reaching each of them. Once you’re done with All Seeing, swap to Active Spider (increased height and distance of Spider-Jump and Spider-Dash).
