System Shock and Ultima Developer Warren Spector Is Making a New Game

Date:

Warren Spector, the developer best known for Deus Ex, System Shock and Ultima, has announced a new project with his studio OtherSide Entertainment.

Spector is working on an immersive, narrative-led new IP where player choice will have a direct impact on the story.

In a press release Spector said: “It feels great to be working with a talented team on a new title and new IP. Fans of my work already know what to expect: an immersive world and engaging narrative that players will directly impact through their choices and playstyles.

OtherSide is hiring a number of new staff to work on the game and promised further information about it soon.

System Shock 3 is also currently in development at OtherSide but appears to have had a turbulent production so far. It was announced more than six years ago and development was reportedly taken over by Nightdive Studios after OtherSide fell “critically behind”.

OtherSide’s website still states that it is working on System Shock 3 but announced in May 2020 that production of the game has also been shifted to Tencent.

Underworld Ascendant is the studio’s latest game, though IGN said it was “awful” in our 3/10 review. We said it’s “just broken. What little roleplaying game fun there might’ve been is taken off the table by technical failings, a save system that feels like cruel and unusual punishment, and a bland story that takes place in similarly repetitive environments.”
