LoL Patch 13.4 Notes: Another Round of Support and Jungle Changes

Another League patch with another batch of jungle changes.


The state of the jungle has been a big talking point for LoL during Season 13 so far. The heavy ganking meta, coupled with the dominance of ranged supports in the bot lane, has been a big annoyance for a big part of the player base. Riot had already made some changes to the role in the last patches, but junglers in solo queue, and pro play, have been relying more and more on early ganks and the farming junglers can’t find a good place in the game for themselves.

To help with the problem, there are some big changes coming with patch 13.4. Both clear speed and comeback kill experience is getting adjusted, so junglers won’t be able to spam gank and still be at the same level or even ahead of their counterparts. Also, there are nerfs to the overall experience a kill gives, so the early takedowns won’t snowball as hard as they do in patch 13.3. Coupled with more nerfs to individual champions like Amumu, Maokai and Elise, both pro play and solo queue should see some change in the jungle meta.

Another big problem with the game in Season 13 has been the ranged supports, starting with enchanters last season to Heimerdinger at Worlds, and now with the dominance of double ADC bot lanes. Riot apparently decided the common problem with these support picks is the ranged support items, so these are getting nerfed while melee support items will see some buffs.

Last but not least, maybe the biggest change of the LoL patch 13.4 is not about champion or role balancing at all. The most important change in the patch for solo queue players will be the new LP gain changes for wins and losses. To help with the current player perception that climbing is really hard and grindy, Riot is buffing the LP gains from an average of 15 to an average of 22. But be aware that this also means you will lose more LP for your defeats as well.

When does LoL patch 13.4 go live?

Patch 13.4 will go live on February 24.

The first region that the patch will drop is the Oceania servers at 6 AM AEDT. The rest of the servers will follow suit in the morning hours of their respective regions. Here are the timings for most servers:
