A report from analyst firm Beecham Research, a specialist in the IoT market, highlights the success of LoRaWAN.

LoRaWAN has surpassed its competitors by a considerable margin, with shipments of LoRa chipsets outpacing others by more than two to one. In fact, the report boldly declares: “LoRaWAN is already the leading low-power wide area network (LPWAN) technology for IoT applications.”

A related report by Beecham underscores the pivotal role of end-users collaborating with IoT experts to deploy solutions effectively and maximise return on investment (ROI):

“The influence of specialist solution providers/system integrators in the buying process is high. These already have strong connections in their sectors and are often treated as technical references for details on the elements of IoT solutions, including connectivity.”

Bob Blanchard, Manager of Business Development for Americas at Klika, concurs with the significance of system integrators in IoT deployments.

Blanchard points out that system integrators play a crucial role in writing embedded application code, enabling seamless data transmission to cloud or server databases. Importantly, their expertise is chiefly required during the design and development phase, eliminating the need for additional headcount in project execution.

Donna Moore, Chairwoman and CEO of the LoRa Alliance, emphasises the critical importance of choosing the right connectivity technology for specific use cases:

“Choosing the right connectivity technology for a use case is the most important decision an end-user will make. Some may not have the in-house expertise to compare requirements to technology options; solutions providers help them find the right-fit technology.”

Moore further explains that solutions providers play a pivotal role in analyzing use cases, educating end-users about available technologies, and enabling project managers from various sectors to envision the full scope of an IoT deployment.

Mirosław Ryba, PhD, and partner at EY leading IoT consulting services, shares insights gained from working with global companies on IoT solutions:

“An interesting observation is that in several cases, LoRaWAN proved to be the final choice, even though it was initially not considered by our client.”

Ryba goes on to explain that LoRaWAN’s suitability shines in scenarios where long-range connectivity and low power consumption are essential, while real-time low-latency communication is not a primary requirement.

One of the key determinants of IoT deployment success is its seamless integration with an end-user’s existing technologies and infrastructure.

Jarosław Mroczkowski, Strategy Advisor at infrastructure provider Emitel, emphasises the role of integrators in ensuring smooth, massive deployments. He highlights their value in integrating new and existing data streams into a unified dashboard, enabling end-users to quickly realize deployment benefits, including ROI and sustainability goals.

As the adoption of LoRaWAN technology continues to surge, there is a growing demand for professionals with expertise in this field.

Responding to this market need for expertise, the LoRa Alliance has introduced the LoRaWAN Accredited Professional Program, aimed at validating LoRaWAN technical knowledge and assisting end-users in hiring individuals with the skills they require.

As the IoT landscape evolves, LoRaWAN is standing out as a robust and versatile connectivity solution that offers significant advantages to end-users across various sectors.
