What to watch this week – More MSI spots up for grabs | GosuGamers

Date:

It’s coming down the wire for the LEC, LCK, and LPL to determine who makes it to the Mid-Season Invitational.

As it stands, only three teams from the four major regions have qualified to the Mid-Season Invitational as the likes of Team Liquid is the sole member of the bracket stage thus far. FlyQuest came second to Liquid during the LCS Spring Split grand finals, which will see them make it to the Play-In Stage alongside G2 Esports, who won the LEC Winter Split a few months prior.

But while the LCS is already over and done with, the likes of the LEC, LCK, and LPL have yet to fully unravel as we make our way across the finish line. There are only four teams left standing in the LCK in a double-elimination bracket whilst the LEC still has six teams remaining, and the LPL has seven still in the running.

The likes of Gen.G Esports, T1, Dplus KIA, and Hanwha Life Esports are the only ones left standing. Both HLE and Dplus had to play a best-of-five single-elimination bracket prior to joining the double-elimination phase. This saw HLE take down Kwangdong Freecs 3-0 while Dplus eliminated KT Rolster from contention in a five-game thriller. Gen.G will now go up against Dplus later today followed by T1 versus HLE this time tomorrow.

As the LPL will only live stream its games from Thursday to Sunday only, that would mean there are limited games to watch. Nonetheless, the LPL Spring Split playoffs is nearing the end of its first phase, which was in a King-of-the-hill format. JD Gaming is currently waiting for the victor between LNG Esports and Weibo Gaming with the latter being last year’s Worlds first-runner up. They are playing later today with the winner moving on and the loser getting eliminated from the playoffs.

G2 Esports are currently dominating the LEC once more as have already booked a slot to the upper bracket final alongside Team BDS, another LEC team that has been in outstanding form since the tail-end of last season. G2 have got the better of BDS at almost every step of the way over the last few seasons, so the upper bracket final will be an interesting best-of-five to determine who goes to the grand final and solidifies a spot to MSI. There is also the lower bracket to contend with as the likes of Team Vitality, MAD Lions KOI, Fnatic, and Team Heretics fight for their tournament lives.
