Dillingham had some great moments during his one season at Kentucky. He is now in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As a five-star recruit out of North Carolina, Dillingham joined Overtime Elite for what would have been his senior season of high school. Following one season there, he signed with Kentucky. He had an impressive freshman season, which saw him average 15.2 points and 3.9 assists per game. His play helped Kentucky get a no. 3 seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Following the NCAA Tournament exit, Dillingham declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a top five pick.
Rob Dillingham Strengths
Dillingham’s greatest strength is the ability to create shots for himself. He has great ball-handling skills and wiggle to free himself for open shots. Dillingham creates separation to get to the basket, or he can pull up by keeping defenders on their heels. At the end of the shot clock, Dillingham has the ability to create something out of nothing. He can score in isolation opportunities.
His shooting is very good in a few different ways. He hit 44 percent of his 3-point shots last season. This was a good mix of shots off the dribble, but also on some catch-and-shoot opportunities. He doesn’t need to have his feet set, as he can shoot on the move. This allows him to play on and off the ball well. In his one season at Kentucky he also knocked down nearly 80 percent of his free throws.
His passing and court vision are great as well. Dillingham can beat his own man, then find someone open after other defenders jump to help on him. He sees where the pressure is coming from and uses that to his advantage. Dillingham operates the pick and roll well. He can pass to the screener or find someone else open on the perimeter.
Rob Dillingham Weaknesses
Dillingham is one of the smaller players in the class. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 164 pounds. This will make it tough for him to match up in the NBA. Adding muscle is imperative to his future success. He also doesn’t have a great wingspan, which will make defense tougher for him.
While the energy and effort is there on defense, he can be exposed fairly decently. He can lose his man at times, but also can misunderstand his assignment. Dillingham can improve in this regard with more coaching because his effort is there.
Finishing at the rim will be tough for Dillingham because of his size. He can make circus shots through bigger defenders, but it doesn’t always come with consistency. Dillingham can use floaters in the lane to get around finishing at the rim.
