MPL PH Season 11 got underway on Friday, February 17, with all eight teams playing at least one series over the weekend. For some, it was definitely not the start they were hoping for, while one team definitely got themselves off to a fantastic start. There were a few big upsets too, as teams took to the Land of Dawn in Week 1 of MPL PH Season 11.

Unstoppable Echo

ECHO and Blacklist International kicked off the MPL PH festivities with what was essentially a rematch of the M4 World Championship grand finals. With that being the last time the two teams faced each other, it was clear that there was no stopping Echo this weekend. The team blasted through Blacklist, who could not get the Moskov to work out in their favour, before taking down Bren Esports on Saturday. ECHO’s next challenge comes next week in the form of ONIC PH.

Smart Omega stuck

With a few changes to their roster this season, Smart Omega Esports were hoping to make up some precious ground early in the season. Unfortunately for them, this was not the case, as they slumped to two separate defeats, albeit taking one game off ONIC PH. The team will need to find their footing going into Week 2 as they take on both RSG.PH and Blacklist, both teams which are considered their rivals in the region.

While it is only the first week of MPL PH Season 11, the standings already show a very telling story, and the teams without a win yet will definitely need to step up in the next few weeks. Whether or not ECHO will remain the unstoppable force that they have been ever since their glorious M4 victory remains to be seen, but for now we look ahead to Week 2.
