Legends Battle: Close Look at Runaway

Date:

The Legends Battle match is approaching at the end of this week. The rosters for all four of the competing teams have been announced. Yes, this is a match to hold fans over until the Overwatch League comes back as well as nostalgia, but at the end of the tournament, they all want to win.

Runaway has been very vocal about the closeness they have within the team. Runaway would wait for a team member who was interviewing when they were the Vancouver Titans though they were free to leave. This could come from the fact that this team has gone through the most as a unit. Runner was the founder and player for the team. He used his own income from streaming to fund Runaway. The players didn’t have it as easy as other teams who had sponsors and or organizations.

That being said, because of their gameplay and personalities, Runaway became a crowd favorite.

Runaway has gone for a mixture of old and new when it comes to the DPS lineup. Both the original DPS of Kim ‘Haksal’ Hyojong and Lee ‘Stitch’ Chunghee are returning. The fact that Stitch is coming back to the event is one of the names that have excited fans the most. After Stitch left the Overwatch League, very little has been seen on him. But in scrims Stitch has been putting up the numbers showing that he still has it even after being away from professional play for so long.

Haksal on the other hand has been streaming Overwatch since his departure from the Overwatch League. After the initial introduction stream, he right away started a stream that showed a scrim with the other Runaway teammates. His DPS mechanical skills seem to still be on par with current Overwatch League players.

Per the Battle of Legend’s rules, each team is allowed three current Overwatch League players per map, Runaway has also brought in Jeong “Heesu’ Huisu as their third DPS. Heesu has been on both the Philadelphia Fusion and Toronto Defiant since his departure from the Runaway roster. He has shown his proficiency on hit scan characters like Widow and Cassidy. Most notably he would be known for his Sombra play. Currently, in scrims, he has been playing the Sojourn in the team compositions.

It will be interesting to see what mixture of DPS lineup Runaway will go with as though Stitch and Haksal have synergy, Heesu has had more current Overwatch League experience. It seems like Heesu in the scrims has been a centerpiece with Haksal and Stitch comes in and out to partner with him.

The Return of Bumper

Park ‘Bumper’ Sangbeom, though only in the Overwatch League one season, has a greatly adored player. Bumper started off as a support player and only moved to tank, which he is now known for when the old tank player had moved on. Bumper is a hyper-aggressive tank player that worked in matches because of the great synergy and resources given towards keeping him alive by the team.

Since he left the Overwatch League he has not streamed much, but he has been seen on other players’ streams. Bumper in scrims continues to be very aggressive, which is a double-edged sword with Ramattra. He gets his ultimate much faster than his counterpart but will also be more susceptible to being eliminated faster as well. But as the only tank on the line-up, fans are ensured to see him play in all the matches!

Supports

The support players go from the oldest to the newest. Yoon ‘Runner’ Daehoon is known for his Lucio as his biggest strength is shot-calling and mental focus on the team. As one of the oldest players in the Legends Battle, his mechanical skills may not be the tightest. In scrims, he was picked off first many times.

Lee ‘Leejaegon’ Jaegon and Kang ‘Gangnamjin’ Namjin are best known for their support play in the Overwatch League. Gangnamjin was on the Florida Mayhem alongside his Runaway coach Kim ‘Kuki’ Daekuk and then followed to the NYXL. Meanwhile, Leejaegon has been the powerhouse support for the Shanghai Dragons. When announced that Leejaegon was going to be playing, the Korean announcers laughed that Runner would probably not be seeing any time on Lucio during these matches.

Runaway

With the first match-up being Runaway versus Lunatic-Hai, fans are going to be treated to a great match. There is a possibility with the double elimination that this match-up would be in the Finals as well. The scrims have not been going the best for this team, but if anything they are the ones that are working the hardest to show a good performance.

The English broadcast will be Wolf and Achilios on the Overwatch League channels, while the Korean broadcast will be on the Korean Overwatch and Overwatch League channels. Will you be cheering for Runaway in the Legends Battle?
