Grove Guardian (Forrest)

Date:

The Grove Guardian has one of the wackiest designs of all the Lords Mobile heroes. He almost looks like he got lost on his way into a Legend of Zelda game and ended up in Lords Mobile instead, with his cartoon face and jade-green steed.

He’s also one of the best P2P heroes in the game. And, in this guide, I’ll be telling you all about him, from his backstory to his skills. So pay attention and try to keep up if you want to find out more about the Grove Guardian.

Who Is Grove Guardian?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: lore is not this game’s strong point. Most characters have backstories that could have been written by 5-year-olds, and Grove Guardian is no different. One day, he saw a cyclops attacking a fawn. He saved the fawn (which he named Bucky) and they became friends. That’s all there is to it. IGG really should try hiring somebody who can write an actual story once in a while.

Grove Guardian Score

If you read this website regularly, you’ll know what kind of person I am. I’m a master of lambasting. I pull no punches, and I love being mean, especially to you. However, with all that said, I’m finding it difficult to find much wrong with the Grove Guardian.

He’s amazing in the Colosseum. He works well for monster hunting. And he’s a terrific leader of ranged troops. All in all, there’s not a lot I can say against him. But don’t worry, I’ll still find something to criticize.

His backstory, for example, is super basic. His design is fine, but weird, and some of his Hero Skills are equally strange. But, when we take everything into account, there are way more pros than cons with the Grove Guardian, and he gets a respectable 8.5/10 overall.

Specifications

I’ve judged his appearance and story, but now let’s take a look at Grove Guardian’s skills and see how useful he can be. I’ll discuss both his Battle Skills and Hero Skills, beginning with the Battle Skills. To make things easy for your little pea brain, I’ll write this next part as a list:

Grove Guardian Battle SkillsGrove Guardian Battle Skills
  • Forest Fiesta: This is just like every other main Battle Skill in the game. It does up to 200% squad ATK as DMG to enemy troops. It’s more effective if you’ve leveled Grove Guardian up.
  • Ranged HP Boost: When deployed, Grove Guardian will boost your ranged troops’ max HP by up to 50%.
  • Ranged DEF Boost: This one increases ranged DEF by up to 50%.
  • Ranged ATK Boost: Finally, Forrest can also improve your ranged ATK by up to 30%.

With the full trifecta of ATK, DEF, and HP boosts, Grove Guardian is the ultimate ranged troop leader. DEF is pretty boring, but it’s still useful on the battlefield. And the ATK and HP boosts are huge. There’s not a single F2P hero that can offer those three boosts. Snow Queen comes close, but she doesn’t improve DEF.

Next, let’s see what Forrest can do in Hero mode:

Grove Guardian Hero SkillsGrove Guardian Hero Skills
  • Jam Factory: This is Forrest’s Ultimate attack, and it’s pretty ridiculous. He launches random pieces of fruit at the enemies. Somehow, this inflicts Silence for three seconds.
  • Nut Shot: I wish this attack involved Forrest simply kicking an enemy right in the nuts. But no, he actually launches a nut at them with his slingshot. It deals some damage and stuns for three seconds.
  • Poison Paradise: The status effects keep on coming! With this attack, Grove Guardian lobs a poisonous mushroom at his enemies, dealing some damage and causing Poison for three seconds.
  • Feel the Burn: This is a passive ability. Every now and then, Forrest will fire a burning seed at the enemy. It’s an AoE (area-of-effect) attack, so it can damage multiple enemies at once.

These skills are bizarre, but they’re also damn effective. There are very few heroes in the game that deal decent damage and also inflict status effects like Poison and Silence on the enemy. That’s why Forrest works so well in the Colosseum, but I’ll get to that later on.

I’ll finish up this section with a little bit of extra info about Grove Guardian:

  • Type: Ranged
  • Class: Strength
  • Species: Dryad
  • Sex: Male
  • Movement: Riding

How to Unlock the Grove Guardian

How to Unlock the Grove GuardianHow to Unlock the Grove Guardian

If you’ve been reading up to this point thinking “Grove Guardian sounds awesome, what’s the catch?” Well, here’s the catch: if you want this hero and all of his amazing skills and powers, you’re going to have to pay up.

Yes, Grove Guardian is a P2P hero. Just like other P2P heroes, you’ll need to spend $4.99 on the initial set of 10 medals to unlock Forrest at his most basic level. But he’s pretty useless at that level, so you’ll need to spend much more money to rank him up.

All in all, I worked out it takes around $800 to max out Grove Guardian in one go. Otherwise, you can buy medals in $5 packs every few weeks. That method will take a lot longer but could save you a ton of cash, as it works out around $165.

If you want to spend $800 on a freaky yellow gremlin in a mobile game, be my guest. Just don’t come crying to me when your bank account runs dry.

Grove Guardian and the Colosseum

Grove Guardian and the ColosseumGrove Guardian and the Colosseum

The Colosseum is where Grove Guardian does his best work. In fact, I’d easily include him as one of the top five Colosseum heroes in the game. And that’s all because of his incredible abilities to silence, stun, and poison his foes.

No matter who you come up against, Forrest almost feels like a cheat code as he cancels the opponent’s attacks over and over. He’s especially handy against teams of intelligence heroes. He can prevent them casting spells, giving you a few seconds for some free hits.

Rallying with Grove Guardian

Rallying is another area where Grove Guardian can shine. With the full trio of ranged boosts, he’s the perfect commander if you’re sending archers into battle. Just remember that he doesn’t help the rest of your army in any way.

Monster Hunting with Grove Guardian

Grove Guardian also features regularly in some of my best monster-hunting lineups. He can take a hit and deals damage well, but his biggest benefit is his ability to stop monsters in their tracks with skills that can inflict Stun and Silence.

However, there is a snag. Some monsters are resistant to status effects like Poison and Silence. And if you bring Grove Guardian into those kinds of fights, he’ll be as useful as a glass hammer. That means “not at all,” just in case you missed the joke.

Tips and Trivia

  • The Grove Guardian was released in May 2017.
  • It is possible to unlock this hero for free via Limited Challenges, but you’ll still need to spend money on medals to level him up.
  • F2P Alternatives: Tracker is probably the closest you can get to Grove Guardian in terms of F2P heroes. She boosts ranged ATK and DEF, just like Forrest, and she also has a stun skill. Snow Queen is another option for improving your ranged troops.
  • P2P Alternatives: Petite Devil can boost ranged HP and ATK, like Grove Guardian. Plus, her increased research speed arguably makes her better in some scenarios. Mastercook is another solid ranged leader, but he’s not as good as Forrest in the Colosseum.
