Dota 2: How to Deal With Huskar?

Date:

Huskar giving you headaches in pubs? Read our handy tips on how to deal with him in our latest Dota 2 guide.

Even though Dota 2 has tons of heroes that we can choose from, people who play PUBs usually focus on a couple of options. Huskar might not have been the meta carry/midder yet, but the hero is definitely one of the best options you can get when it comes down to grinding MMR.

Huskar’s power to take advantage of weak laners makes him one of the best options for boosting. Naturally, he is among the most famous heroes across all skill brackets because he is easy to play and deals tons of damage.

Despite his strengths, Huskar is a hero that also has a lot of weaknesses. Some people are aware of most of them, but others have yet to learn how to deal with the hero. That’s why this guide will include a couple of important steps users should be aware of.

Pick a hero that will work well against him

Although Huskar has undergone many changes over the years, the hero has always been good against certain heroes and bad against others. Generally speaking, his passive ability allows him to be much tankier against spell casters. Hence, things like Lina, Invoker, Leshrac, etc., could be better against him. Sure, they can do a lot of damage, but Huskar will outlive it and kill them in seconds.

Even though it depends on the game itself and many other options, generally speaking, Huskar is a hero that is not that good against enemies that do serious physical damage. There are a lot of good examples, such as Chaos Knight, Ursa, Phantom Assassin, and more. Necrophos and AA are also incredibly effective against Huskar because they can take advantage of the fact that he is always on half HP and kill him in seconds.

That said, these heroes counter Huskar during the mid and late-game because this is when they will have at least a couple of items. Huskar can rip through them early on, which is why it is important to get a hero that can lane against him. This brings us to our second point.

Dealing with Huskar in the laning stage

As mentioned, Huskar is among the most dominant heroes in Dota 2 when it comes to the early game. He is fast and extremely tanky, and his burning spears allow him to harass everyone. No wonder the hero can win pretty much against anyone in a 1v1 matchup.

Once Huskar wins his lane, he will try to get Armlet as soon as possible and use it to kill Roshan. Once that happens, the hero becomes difficult to deal with and the game is pretty much over. Needless to say, you have to prevent this by putting a hero who can lane well against him.

There are not that many options that can do well, but some heroes can counter him. Viper, for example, is solid against Huskar and can win the lane reasonably easily. Other than that, any hero with high range and a lot of damage can also do fairly well. Shadow Fiend, for example, is a good option in the mid-lane, whereas Timbersaw is excellent in the offlane.

Ganking Huskar – Is It Worth It?

If you read a good Huskar Dota 2 guide, you will see that people always pay attention to the possibility of ganks. The other team’s support can gank every mid-laner, and Huskar is not an exception. That said, you have to be extremely careful when ganking this hero because things might not work out.

As you know, Huskar’s passive ability allows the hero to have extra attack speed and HP regen when he is on low HP. This makes him incredibly dangerous, and people must be sure they will kill him while he is disabled. If they fail, Huskar will usually land enough shots to get at least one kill. If the hero has Armlet, he can kill both enemies in no time.

If you are playing against Huskar and want you or your allies to gank him, make sure you have some kind of disables. Keeping him in place long enough will be enough to score a kill, but your support has to keep in mind that he can die because the Burning Arrows do a lot of damage.

The best items against Huskar

Regardless of the heroes he has to go up against, almost all Huskar players will get a Black King Bar. Some of them will also go for Heaven’s Halberd, meaning that it will be even harder to land a kill. That’s why you need to know what you’re doing and get items that will allow you to kill this hero.

Unsurprisingly, everything that disables a given target will work well against Huskar because it will give you and your team enough time to land a kill. There are many good options out there, such as Abyssal Blade and Scythe of Vyse. However, these items cost a lot of gold, so you won’t be able to get them that early.

If you want something that can work well against Huskar early on, you should try to get Silver Edge. This item is powerful because it removes the passives when you attack a given hero for a couple of seconds. In other words, once you bait Huskar’s BKB, you can attack him with this item and kill him fast.

Things to be aware of

Huskar is one of the few Dota 2 heroes that is more than happy when he stays on low HP because it allows him to be more effective. Since most players will have Armlet, you have to be careful and not engage in a fight if you are not absolutely sure you can kill him right away. Failing to do that means that he will start using the “Armlet toggle” and kill you in seconds.

Huskar is really strong, but he is not the best in the late game. In fact, he is one of the weaker cores, meaning that if you pick a late-game monster like Spectre, TB, or Phantom Assassin, you should be able to deal with the annoying hero at this stage of the game.
