Will Xbox Mobile Kill The Console? – Droid Gamers

Date:

Phil Spencer, the CEO of Gaming at Microsoft made the announcement that Xbox could be tanked if the mobile platform doesn’t thrive. It’s been known for some time that Microsoft was interested in extending the Xbox reach into the mobile space, which Phil Spencer elaborated on in an Official Xbox Podcast.

Is Xbox Becoming Irrelevant?

Not exactly! The Official Xbox Podcast displayed nothing but transparency from Spencer. However, on that note Phil Spencer wants the mobile market to be a success, obviously. Which, does also seem plausible given that mobile gaming titans both console and PC.

“I am really looking forward to learning on mobile. The truth of the matter is, if you’re going to continue to be relevant in gaming at a global scale, you’re going to have to find a way to be relevant on the largest platform, which is mobile.” – Phil Spencer.

What this essentially details is that, if the mobile platform for Xbox doesn’t hit the ground running, it could trigger the eventual downfall of Xbox as an empire. Remaining relevant to players is the life-or-death cut for gaming outlets, and mobile will simply never die.

So, What Happens?

Well, we already covered the news of Xbox launching its own mobile platform. This now seems like something we can expect real soon after the chat with Phil Spencer. The opportunity is there for more Activision games to reach new players now that the company is entrusted to Microsoft. So it seems like a natural next step of growth for the company moving forward.

This isn’t to say that all Microsoft games will be ported into mobile, even though this was something previously planned. But massive titles may slowly trickle into the mobile space once this plan is fully in motion. Spencer also spoke on what we can expect from this new era of Xbox;

“It doesn’t mean I want to turn all of our franchises into mobile franchises. It doesn’t mean everything is going to go free-to-play. I think the distribution and business model diversity that we have is a strength of the platform,” he said.
