Nishi and Cian Jarver moved from Sydney to Brisbane in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdowns.

The couple, who have a 17-month-old son, Hugo, were keen to be closer to family after spending four years in London and a year at Double Bay.

In August 2020, they looked at 11 houses in one day and fell in love with ‘Kapunda’, a period home at 43 Whytecliffe St in Albion.

Since then, the median house price in the sought-after suburb has soared 38.3 per cent.

“We are not surprised,” Nishi said. “It is a great area and we are most upset about leaving it.

“There is just so much happening here and a lot of people don’t know about this little pocket.

“But we have to move back to Sydney for work.”

Cian works in digital media and Nishi is in marketing.

They know they won’t get anything like Kapunda again, describing it as “one-in-a-million”.

“It was the last one we looked at and we didn’t expect we would get it,” Nishi said.

“We fell in love with its character and the story behind its name.”

Originally built in 1887, Kapunda was moved from Fortitude Valley to Albion in 1913.

“The home is believed to be named after the ship ‘Kapunda’ which brought new residents to Australia, including the original owner,” the listing by Place Ascot agents Tanya Mitchell and Drew Davies says.

“The home now rests on a 521sqm block in the heart of Albion, offering views of the city and within walking distance of a plethora of cafes, restaurants, bars and recreational facilities.”

Character features include wrought-iron balustrading, leadlight windows, a double fireplace with marble surrounds, sash windows, French doors, high ceilings, original wooden flooring and VJ walls.

It has four bedrooms including a main bedroom retreat with a separate lounge and dormer windows, two bathrooms, two large outdoor entertaining spaces, and it sits with the catchments of several good schools.

“We definitely won’t get the same bang for buck back in Sydney,” Nishi said.

The couple are hoping to find something coastal, Cian said.
