Sand Sage (Ilya)

Date:

Sand Sage is one of the recently released heroes in Lords Mobile (If you’re reading this from the future, ignore this sentence). She came out in March of 2022 with a pretty amazing kit.

This girl is a ranged intelligence hero who deals magic damage to enemies and can be utilized in various game modes. She resembles a few older heroes in the game, like Magmaroid, judging by her Battle Skills, which are more or less the same. Nothing new of IGG to sell new heroes on old glory. On the other hand, her Hero Skills are a bit more interesting. Overall, her kit is balanced, and she makes a decent hero.

Read on to learn more about Sand Sage and what she can do.

Who Is Sand Sage?

Who is Sand sageWho is Sand sage

I thought I would never say this, but IGG actually put some time into creating Sand Sage’s backstory. Her lore is almost twice or three times longer than what most heroes get.

Sand Sage’s real name is Ilya, and she was born with sandstone in her hand. This meant she fulfilled the prophecy of a child the Sand Spirit chose. Since she was a child with powers, which she couldn’t control, she inflicted pain on those around her. Other kids shunned her and it was up to her twin sister Marcia to protect her.

Everything came to a head when sand bandits attacked the oasis Ilya lived in. Ilya released her full force to protect her sister, creating a sandstorm that saved them and the village while banishing the bandits. From that moment, Ilya gained the determination to master her sand magic.

Sand Sage Score

Score of Sand SageScore of Sand Sage

I can’t be too mean towards Sand Sage since IGG seems to have thought about every aspect when creating this character. Apart from the backstory, which is decent, her appearance also deserves high praise. The artwork on Sand Sage is impressive. While I don’t like cutesy stuff, the pyramid pet (which is supposed to be the Sand Spirit) is cool.

While most female heroes are a bit… slutty, the Sand Sage is modest in comparison.

Regarding her Battle and Hero Skills, Sand Sage is a decent hero with a mix of useless and downright powerful ones. She can be used in modes like Colosseum and Monster Hunting, but doesn’t really excel.

Overall, I give Sand Sage an 7/10 since I had to reduce some points for Battle Skills.

Specifications

Let’s break down the kit of this madame and take a deeper look into her abilities and how they can be utilized.

Battle Skills:

Battle SkillsBattle Skills
  • Sand Blast: Tactics skill that can deal up to 200% squad ATK as DMG to enemy troops.
  • Ranged DEF Blessing: One of the three passive spells Sand Sage has is the boost for ranged units DEF. She increases this stat by up to 10%.
  • Ranged ATK Blessing: This skill increases the ATK of ranged troops by up to 10%.
  • Gear Crafting Boost: An admin skill that increases the crafting speed by up to 20%.

Sand Sage Battle Skills are dull. Nothing special about them, and only 10% ATK and DEF ranged boosts are not nearly enough for her to be an active Ranger Commander. However, you don’t need to deploy her into battle to receive these boosts since all three skills are passive.

Let’s look at her Hero Skills, which are the reason for my high grade.

Hero SkillsHero Skills
  • Sandstorm: The ultimate ability that damages all enemies in a medium area for five seconds. It also gives Ilya a shield when she hits enemies with attacks.
  • Shifting Sands: This active ability deals damage to enemies in a medium area.
  • Sandbox: Traps a single target with sand magic, dealing damage and stunning them for three seconds.
  • Sand’s Blessing: Sand Sage’s passive spell increases Force of all her allies, allowing them to ignore some of the enemy’s defenses.

Besides Shifting Sands, which doesn’t deal as much damage as it should, Ilya’s kit is pretty OP. Her ultimate deals tons of damage, combined with her passive. Sandbox is another skill that should be taken advantage of in modes like Colosseum.

For me, the best heroes have utility, team buffs, and some way to prevent themselves from dying, and Sand Sage checks all these boxes. If you position her right, she can be a game changer.

Additional Sand Sage info:

  • Class: Intelligence
  • Species: Human

How to Unlock Sand Sage

How to unlock Sand SageHow to unlock Sand Sage

Sand Sage is a pay-to-play hero, and it’s worth unlocking her, even though you can find alternatives with free heroes and save some money. But it’s your mom and dad that need to pay for your mistakes, so I don’t care.

You can unlock Ilya by buying the Sand Sage package on sale for $4.99, where you’ll get 10 medals and unlock the Common or White grade. For Green, you need 10 more. For a complete upgrade and Legendary grade, you need 330 medals.

You can either buy packs in one shot which will cost you $1,375, or purchase pack by pack for $165 whenever they go on sale.

Sand Sage and The Colosseum

If my slower readers forgot, I already mentioned Sand Sage should be played in Colosseum. Her Hero Skills are excellent in this mode. Sandbox can stun a single target enemy for three seconds, which is huge, especially since she can do that at the beginning of the fight. For example, you might end up stunning Demon Slayer and save your backline. Another good thing is you can proc the stun quite often. What she could be lacking in damage, she makes up in CC.

Rallying With Sand Sage

The Battle Skills of this hero aren’t of much use for active rallies. She doesn’t have “When Deployed” spells, so you don’t need to send her into battle with your army to receive her boosts. With gear boost, keep her inside your kingdom. And since Ilya gives only 10% ATK and DEF to ranged units, it’s not worth using her as commander.

Monster Hunting With Sand Sage

Monster Hunting is another suitable mode for Ilya. With her passive, your lineup will deal more magic damage, which can be used against heroes with already low MDEF. However, other heroes usually bring more to the table and most people would have a few good P2P heroes leveled up by then.

Tips and Trivia

  • The Sand Sage was released on March 11, 2022.
  • F2P Alternatives: Incinerator, Elementalist, and Snow Queen are good free-to-play alternatives that deal severe magic damage in battles.
  • P2P Alternatives: Good P2P heroes to use instead of Ilya are Petite Devil, who is squishier but a better-ranged commander, and Witch Doll.
