Team of the Season is currently occupying FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, but that mammoth promo will soon be replaced by another when the Shapeshifters event takes over!
First appearing in FUT 20 and returning in FUT 22, it sees top players getting the usual stats boosts, as well as having their base positions changed, transforming them into new threats.

Latest – Loading Screen Tease
The latest loading screen in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team has given us a taste of what to expect from the upcoming Shapeshifters campaign!
As well as the regular Shapeshifters card design shown on the right, there is a Shapeshifters Icon card, which will likely be the Alternate Reality Icon item which was leaked months ago.
The card on the left looks like it will be a Premium Shapeshifters item, with the crown design used in the FUTTIES promo in FUT 22 signalling that.
There is no sign of a Shapeshifters FUT Hero card just yet, but it will surely just be a matter of time!
Shapeshifters Release Date
The Shapeshifters promo will take over from the Team of the Season event on Friday, 16 June at the usual time of 1pm ET / 6pm BST.
Last year we saw four squads released during the event, meaning the campaign could run until Friday, 14 July!
Shapeshifters
We first saw the Shapeshifters promo in FIFA 20, with it reappearing in FIFA 22, so we know what mechanics to expect from the event when it returns to FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.
The selected promo players will receive the usual massive boosts, but they will also have their cards transformed, with changes coming to player positions, work rates, weak foot ability, and updated attributes to better suit their new position.
Two Shapeshifters squads were released in FUT 20, which then doubled to four in FUT 22, so we expect to see another extended campaign this time.
A couple of Objective players were made available with each team, as well as SBCs coming throughout the campaign, some containing Dual Pick player rewards.
FUT Heroes also received upgrades and even league changes last year, so look out for that to happen again, with the possibility that Alternate Reality Icons finally make an appearance in the game!
EA went all out with Shapeshifters in the FUT 22 campaign, with an accompanying Summer Swaps system released alongside it, which we could see again in FUT 23.

The first two Shapeshifters cards have already been released, coming via the Season 7 Rewards!

Shapeshifters Premium Players
A Shapeshifters Premium version has also been added to the database, with some speculating this could be similar to the FUTTIES Premium items we saw last year.
Players who gained a FUTTIES Premium card in FUT 22 had the same chemistry links as FUT Heroes, so provided strong links to those in the same league.
This would be a great addition to the Shapeshifters promo, giving cards a little bit extra as we approach the end of the FUT 23 campaign.
Summer Swaps
To make the Shapeshifters event even bigger in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team the Summer Swaps system from FUT 22 could join it again.
We didn’t gain a Token Swaps system during Team of the Season, which was surprising, so we would expect to see one released.
As with all the previous campaigns, you can gain Tokens as rewards by completing Objectives and SBCs, as well as via Packs in the FUT Store.
By trading in the Swaps Tokens against corresponding SBCs you can gain rewards such as special player items, Packs and Player Picks, with the rewards in FUT 22 as follows:

Predictions
With Shapeshifters set to take over from the Team of the Season event, it gives EA the chance to release some ridiculous cards to see us out to the end of the current FIFA 23 Ultimate Team campaign.
Last year we saw a 99 OVR Lionel Messi included in Team 1, which was followed by a 99 OVR Cristiano Ronaldo in Team 2, something that we could see repeated.
Adama Traore has already gained a position-changed striker item during the Winter Wildcards event, but the fan-favourite will be a likely candidate for another upgrade during Shapeshifters.
We will surely see FUT Hero items in the promo teams again, meaning Lucio could be converted to a target-man striker, Yaya Toure a ball-playing CB, and Saeed Al Owairan a rapid LB.
Alternate Reality Icons were leaked months again after being added to the FUT code, but haven’t made an appearance in the game as of yet.
Could we see Pele converted to a winger, Carlos Alberto a CDM, and Ruud Gullit at CB? We will have to wait and see.
