Overwatch 2: Tank Heroes To Avoid Playing in Season 5

Date:

There are some of the Overwatch 2 Season 5 tanks you should avoid playing right now.

The 5th Season of Overwatch 2 brought a couple of interesting changes to the table when it comes down to tanks. Although only 2 heroes received some changes, the meta changed a lot, meaning some of the tanks are not as good as before.

Knowing which Overwatch 2 Season 5 tanks to pick can have a big impact on your win rate because this is the most position in the game. Even though every option can work in some situations, let’s go over those that are probably not worth getting right now.

Zarya

Let’s face it, Zarya is a pretty solid tank in Overwatch 2 Season 5. She can work really well against most heroes and can be pretty hard to deal with. However, she has some major weaknesses that a lot of good players will exploit. The main one is that the hero is just not that good when it comes down to pushing enemy heroes away from her. Consequently, some of the enemy heroes can easily go past her and land a kill on the backlines.

Normally, Zarya is pretty strong in most tank vs tank matchups. Yet, there are some limits because heroes like Rein can be hard to deal with. That’s why we think that Zarya can be a solid option in Overwatch 2 Season 5, but only in specific situations.

The second Overwatch 2 Season 5 tank that most players should probably avoid is Orisa. This will definitely shock a lot of people because Orisa is regarded as one of the best tanks in the game. However, she’s just not that good in the current meta.

Even though she can be an excellent brawler, other heroes like Zarya have an advantage over her. If we take a look at other Tank vs Tank matchups, Oris can do pretty well against most enemies because of her durability. However, she’s not a good option against the likes of D.Va and Winston because these two are extremely mobile and can decide when to engage and disengage.

Another thing about Orisa is that the hero is not that good against some of the popular DPS in the game. Hanzo, for example, can land multiple headshots really fast because of Orisa’s giant hitbox. Despite the fact that the hero has Fortify, it’s not that difficult to kill her, which definitely has an effect on her results.

Roadhog

At the beginning of the article, we mentioned that only 2 tanks received changes following the arrival of Overwatch 2 Season 5, and Roadhog is one of them. People who played several months ago remember that he was the best hero in the game. His incredibly annoying one-shot combo was terrorizing the Overwatch 2 community, which led to big nerfs.

It seems like the changes were a bit too much because Roadhog completely disappeared from the game. He became one of the worst heroes to play with and definitely the weakest tank in Season 4. Overwatch 2 Season 5 tried to change this by buffing his Take a Breather ability. The latter amplifies his healing by 50% for 2.5s after this ability is over, meaning that he’ll be much harder to kill.

The bad news is that even this buff was not enough to put Hog among the best in the game. In fact, he is probably the weakest tank right now because there are just better options for his role. Roadhog is too easy to counter, and a lot of heroes can cancel his abilities or use him to farm their ults. Therefore, the hero is just not that strong.

Doomfirst

Many Overwatch 2 players think that Doomfirst is one of the best options for a Brawl and Dive combo. While it is true that he can be viable in the hands of people who know how to play with him, generally speaking, this is not the case.

The new meta is okayish for the hero, but we think that Doomfirst is among the Overwatch 2 Season 5 tanks that are just not worth picking. Sure, his damage output is pretty good and Sombra is not really a DPS hero that’s worth picking right now. However, Cassidy’s new grenade means that he counters Doomfirst a lot because the latter can’t use his ability to escape. In other words, DF is almost unplayable against a good Cassidy because the latter will always land his grenades on top of his opponent.

The biggest problem with Doomfirst is that players can’t afford to make any big mistakes. Those who do that will be punished and won’t be able to bounce back.

Honorable mentions

Aside from the Overwatch 2 Season 5 tank heroes you should avoid, there are a couple of options that may work in specific situations, but they’re just too risky. Wrecking Ball is probably the first name that comes to mind because this is a hero that can be extremely efficient, as long as there aren’t any counters. Speaking of the devil, Ball is not good against Sombra, Cassidy (because of the new grenade) and Mei. The latter actually counters every tank in the game right now, but not that many players are aware of it.

Reinhardt is also an intriguing name that has one of the best win rates in the game, according to OverBuff. However, the hero is only good in the low ranks because high-rated players know how to shut him down. Sure, his damage output is pretty impressive, but Rein can be kited and he can’t do anything against heroes that fly. Needless to say, players use it against him all the time.
