Kusho World Teams Up with UPLB for Web3, NFT-focused Event | BitPinas

Date:

Filipino-made non-fungible token (NFT) collection Kusho World collaborated with the University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB) Computer Science Society for the “UNCHAINED: The Internet, Reimagined with Web 3.0” event held last February 26-28, 2024.

It provided students with insights into blockchain through industry speakers and allowed them to mint non-fungible tokens (NFTs) using QR-coded merchandise.

According to the press release, Kusho World’s core team contributed to structuring the program and enhancing the attendee experience of the event by organizing stimulating discussions and interactive sessions.

“It feels incredibly powerful that universities are on their own organizing events centered around Blockchain and its use cases. In this case, we were more than happy to support with an approachable brand like Kusho to be able to help make introducing blockchain a lot less intimidating.”

The event featured two industry speakers, Pos2 from the Growth Team of Sky Mavis and Roikyuu, the Co-Lead and Lead Developer of Kusho World’s Malaya Labs. The statement noted that their insights offered students a distinctive perspective on the dynamic evolution of web3 and blockchain technology.

“Merchandise-To-Mint”

In addition, Kusho World also introduced students to web3 by utilizing merchandise as a gateway to mint NFTs. Each piece of merchandise had a QR code that facilitated a seamless and gasless onboarding process, granting students access to exclusive NFT traits. These unique traits were designed specifically for the event and were only available to attendees— these will be part of the upcoming Familiars collection, a future collection themed around Filipino creature lore.

In a recent X post by Roikyuu, it was revealed that 20 out of 35 shirts were successfully claimed for NFTs; he highlighted that they view this as a success and intend to replicate in their upcoming events.

Kusho shared that the event with UPLB was the second university event it supported. Last October, Josue, as a representative of Kusho World and the CEO of MetaSports, spoke to students from four universities about blockchain in partnership with the University of Perpetual Help and their Student Council.

In a statement, the organization highlighted how participating in these events demonstrates its dedication to cultivating new web3 enthusiasts and developers. According to them, the event’s success and the students’ engagement underscore the increasing interest and potential for web3 technology in educational environments.

Consequently, Kusho revealed to BitPinas that it is currently discussing potential collaborations with several educational institutions, although these are still in the early stages.

“We’re happy that these are coming toward us rather than us searching for them—which goes to show the we’re doing something right. We’re also exploring creating a student leaders group from the Kusho community to further develop these initiatives.”

Kusho World News

In March last year, Josue, who is the co-founder of web3 and esports agency MetaSports, announced his acquisition of the anime-inspired Filipino-made NFT collection, Kusho World. He clarified that the acquisition was made personally, not by his company MetaSports, which is currently engaged in acquiring and partnering with other projects.  Josue secured Kusho’s social and community accounts and the project’s NFT Collection Control and Deployer Wallet.

In an X (formerly Twitter) space, Josue shared his plans for Kusho; this includes establishing it as a legal entity, securing trademarks, and ensuring legal compliance to protect the brand and intellectual property. Josue also discussed the project MINKA and its utility token, emphasizing the importance of legal compliance before its release. He expressed intentions to respect existing plans, integrate new stories without altering the art and design, and form a labs team called Malaya Labs to develop new adventures and experiences for Kusho holders.

Last October, gaming and esports media house and agency MetaSports acquired the intellectual property of Kusho World. The agency noted that the acquisition of Kusho IP aligns with MetaSports’ strategy to venture into anime culture, complementing its existing portfolio, which includes the Lunacian Sports League, Kookoo Crypto TV, YellowPanther, and SEAesport News & Media.
