Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Direct certainly was a mouth-opener. But if you missed it, we’ve got a round up right here.

And, no, we didn’t mean “eye opener” – we’re still unable to cleanse our brains of the image of Kirby devouring a car. But we’ll have more on that later. In the mean time, let’s dig into this surprise Direct, which was announced a mere day before it took place.

Nintendo promised the direct would “mostly” cover titles that were coming in the first half of 2022, so we were weren’t expecting an awful lot. But there were some real surprises doled out over the Direct’s 40 minute runtime, including the announcement that a certain procedurally-generated galaxy-roaming game was coming to Nintendo Switch.

All these titles are for the Nintendo Switch (sorry, 3DS/2DS fans, the console is all but dead), though not necessarily exclusive to the Switch. So, without further ado, here’s what was on show last night.

• No Man’s Sky. You can check out our review here but this space exploration game has come along in leaps in bounds since it’s initial release. We’re excited to take this game on the go, though you can expect it to eat at least 10GB of storage. It’s set for a summer release.
• Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection. Announced earlier this year, this features three remastered Assassin’s Creed games and arrives 17th February.
• MLB The Show 22. Hitting the Switch for the first time, this baseball game arrives this April 5th.
• SD Gundam Battle Alliance. A cutesy battle-bot action-RPG, this is arriving some time later this year.
• Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings: Both these JRPGs are out now on Nintendo Switch Online.
• Fire Emblem Warriors – Three Hopes. This is a sequel to the original hack-and-slash, featuring a character who says, “We need to part ways with our bloody past,” then murders a bunch of NPCs with an axe. It’s out June 24th this year.
• Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp: Out this April 8th, this’ll feature all new voice-overs. No sign of Brian Blessed, sadly.
• Mario Strikers Battle League. The latest iteration of Nintendo’s football series (that’s “soccer” if you live in the United States) will be out this June 10th. It’ll support five vs five play in single-player mode or four vs four play in multiplayer mode.
• Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Out 25th of March, this new trailer showed off a horrifying feature where Kirby can inhale a car and drive around with his mouth stretched over it.
• Front Mission 1st. This mech-based tactical RPG, originally released for the Super Nintendo in 1995 is being remade for the Nintendo Switch. This is due out this summer, with a remake of the sequel, Front Mission 2, to arrive later.
• Disney Speedstorm. This isn’t a Nintendo Switch exclusive (it’s coming to PC and consoles) though it was announced at the Direct. It’s a Mario-Kart-alike, which lets you play as various Disney and Pixar characters. It’s free to play, however, so expect it to motor its way into Microtransaction City when it’s released this summer.
• Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. More Star Wars! More light sabers! Motion controls! The catch is that this is a remaster/port of the Wii version of The Force Unleashed, not the superior PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version. It’s out this April 20th.
• Chrono Cross The Radical Dreamers Edition. A remake of the ridiculously popular JRPG, this will feature a new soundtrack and the ability to skip random encounters. It’s arriving this April 7th.
• Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series. A port of platformers of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil, this collection lands July 8th.
• Nintendo Switch Sports. Remember Wii Sports? Nintendo Switch Sports may have not have launched with the console, as Wii Sports did, but it’ll let you play badminton, tennis, soccer and more, all using motion controls. It’s coming April 29th but you can also apply to play test it.
• Live a Live. This is a remake of a 1994 JRPG that never made it to the west. It’s a collection of smaller tales and will use 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds. It’s out on the 22nd of July.
• Portal Companion Collection. Arriving some time this year, the Companion Collection contains first-person puzzlers Portal and Portal 2. 
• Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival: Set to be released later this year, this is the latest entry in the drum-playing rhythm series. The was no mention of motion controls, however.
• Triangle Strategy. We got the final trailer for this upcoming tactical RPG. It’s out 4th March but there’s a demo on the eShop right now.
• Splatoon 3. The trailer showed off the Salmon Run co-op mode, though the release date is still a vague summer 2022.
• Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Coming September this year, promises more drama and action-RPG monster murder.
• Metroid Dread. There’s a one-hit kill mode and easier mode available right now, with a boss mode on the way.
• Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: The racer is getting a massive 48 new tracks, spread over six waves. They’ll be taken from various Mario Kart games, via a special booster pass. The booster pass will also be available as part of Nintendo Switch Online’s higher tier “Expansion Pack” service.

And there you have it – you can watch the complete Nintendo Direct video above. There was no Mario movie trailer, not even a brief “Hey, I’m not going to mess this up” message from Chris Pratt, but there’s always next time.
