A MULTI-MILLION dollar Sunshine Coast hinterland hideaway could be yours for just $10 as the latest prize home to come out of Queensland is revealed.

From meat trays to mansions, the Endeavour Foundation is celebrating six decades of fundraising efforts by launching its most impressive and expensive prize to date — a $2.19 million luxury home in Maleny.

Soaring property prices, natural disasters and a year of on-off Covid lockdowns has driven the popularity of prize home lotteries.

As of this month, more than $8 million worth of prize homes are on offer across the country, according to Prizehometickets.com.au.

Prize home draws have come a long way in 60 years, with one of Endeavour Foundation’s early prize draws featuring a homestead in Roma with 12 cows thrown in.

“In the early days, we were relying on meat trays and hat parades to fund our valuable

programs,” Endeavour Foundation head of lotteries Kirsty Moore said.

The kitchen has a wine fridge and opens out to an outdoor entertaining area.

“In 1962, we offered our first prize home — a property at Cecil Downs on the Darling Downs.

“Before long there were art unions for seaside blocks, sugar cane farms and cattle properties

across Queensland. Our prize homes have changed over time to reflect the great Australian dream.”

Ms Moore has had the honour of breaking the news to multiple winners over the years.

“People scream, they cry, or they don’t believe me at first,” she said. “It’s not an understatement to say that winning a prize home will change your life for better.

“If it wasn’t for the support of the lottery draws, we would not be able to fund our initiatives which help provide employment, accommodation and greater social connections for people living with an intellectual disability.”

Last year’s winner Marjory Carter went from renting in Brisbane to owning a luxury Sunshine Coast home.

The property sits on a huge 3071 sqm of land.

Mrs Carter and her husband moved from a rental in Brisbane’s northern outskirts to a luxurious prize home at Little Mountain in Caloundra and used the equity to buy a home for their daughter, who is a single mum.

“My daughter has four children, three of them are autistic and have a lot of special needs,” Mrs Carter said.

“Winning meant that I could give her a home, and she didn’t have to move from rental to rental.”
