Dota 2 2023 DPC Tour 2 Division I Recap – North America

Date:

All the action from our first week of the North America’s DPC Tour 2, Division 1.

After Shopify Rebellion tried defending North America’s prestige at The Lima Major 2023, it’s time to focus on Tour 2 of the 2023 DPC Division I. The best teams in NA are back yet again and must determine which 2 will reach the second Major. Speaking of teams, you can learn more about all participants by checking our overview of the 2023 NA DPC.

Despite the fact that many people consider NA to be the least interesting region to watch, we disagree. Sure, some teams here are considerably better than the rest, but we have to remember that NA only has 2 Major slots. Consequently, the leading names have to be flawless if they want to secure one of them.

With that said, let’s go over some of the things that happened during Week 1.

Nouns started with a dominant victory against 5RATFORCESTAFF

Nouns are one of the big North American teams that failed to qualify for the Major after losing against TSM and SR during Tour 1. However, it seems like Moo and the rest are determined to be among the best this time around. The team had no problems in its opening series at the Dota 2 DPC NA Tour 2 Division I and defeated 5RATFORCESTAFF.

5RAT and their opponents used two similar drafts in both games. Moo and co. relied on Ember, IO, and Tusk, whereas their opponents picked Undying, Rubick, and Leshrac.

After winning the first game, the second one was a race against the clock because 5RAT picked Alchemist, one of the hottest cores in the new meta. The second match between the two lasted for 45 minutes and gave us access to a lot of plays. However, nouns proved they were better and outplayed their opponents.

El Classico – SR vs TSM

The second match of the Dota 2 DPC 2023 Tour 2 in North America was the most anticipated and interesting series of the entire Tour. This probably doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that the two leading teams had to play against each other.

Most people expected Arteezy and his team to win the clash because SR played well in Lima, whereas TSM didn’t do anything. However, it seems like Timado and the rest know how to defeat their formidable opponents because the team won the series.

Speaking of the series, the first map went in SR’s favor because the team won after 40 minutes of play. Although TSM tried experimenting with an interesting Tinker and Lycan draft, it didn’t pay off because SR’s BS and Shadow Fiend were too good.

Game 2

The bad news for Shopify Rebellion is that the team lost games 2 and 3 in the first match of the Dota 2 DPC NA Tour. After losing Game 1, TSM changed its draft and got TB and Invoker. Even though SR used their signature Storm Spirit and Furion, Abed and the rest failed to live up to the expectations and lost the map.

Game 3

In the last match of the series, the ex-EG roster tried getting a tanky draft with DK and Doom. Although it looked excellent on paper, TSM’s Storm Spirit and Lycan combo ripped through their opponents. The team won after just 33 minutes of play, which allowed it to start the series with a win.

SR & TSM won their next series

After the epic battle in the Dota 2 NA DPC Tour 2 Division I between SR and TSM, the two powerhouses won their subsequent series. Arteezy and the rest had a match against Team DogChamp, which won after 2 games of 30 minutes each. As expected, the squad had no problems taking control of the match and using it to defeat its opponents.

On the other hand, TSM had an interesting series against 5RATFORCESTAFF. This match turned out to be more interesting than many people expected because of the first game of the series. TSM tried using their IO and Morphling draft, whereas their opponents relied on a Shadow Fiend and Timbersaw.

Interestingly, 5RAT gained a massive lead in the first game and secured almost all T2 towers after just 30 minutes of play. However, due to the team’s lack of experience, their opponents were able to turtle the series long enough for their Morphling to carry them. We saw several back-and-forth fights, but in the end, TSM’s cores were too powerful to deal with, and the squid won.

Following the problematic game one, one of the best teams in the North America DPC 2023 didn’t have any problems in the second match. TSM used a similar draft, but instead of picking Morphling, the squad focused on Anti-Mage. We expected a slower game, but TSM had no problems and got more than a 10k lead after just 20 minutes of play. As expected, this was more than enough for the team to win.

Nouns won against Dendi’s squad

The last interesting series of Week 1 Tour 2 North America DPC was between B8 and nouns. The latter had already won their first match, so it was vital for them to secure a second victory because it would put them in a good spot.

Speaking of winning, Moo and co had no problems against B8, especially in the second game of the series. However, the first one was full of action and lasted 51 minutes. B8 was in control throughout most of it because they had a better draft. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to win, and the squad lost.

Following the loss in the series’ first game, nouns ripped through their opponents in the second one. Their LD and Drow combo proved to be too strong, and the team won the map after 25 minutes.
