Detective Game Forest Grove Promises to Make CSI Look Old Fashioned

Date:

Forest Grove

Remember CSI: Miami and the like? Upcoming forensic detective game Forest Grove promises to make those shows look old fashioned.

That’s no small accomplishment, given that a lot of the technology in those shows was basically sci-fi anyway. Apparently, real-life CSIs used to get annoyed that, thanks to the show, people expected them to accomplish miracles. Forest Grove is as far above CSI Miami as CSI Miami was above reality.

When an heiress goes missing, the authorities grab every clue they can get their hands on, scan the building, as you do, and create a life-size recreation of the house. Would the authorities go to that length if the missing person wasn’t absolutely loaded? Probably not. But it should make for an interesting experience, given you’ve got the run of the whole (virtual) house.

What makes Forest Grove stand out, from what we’ve seen in the trailer, is the way it uses strange semi-constructed characters to present the “real” people. The faces featured in Forest Grove’s portraits and the like look to be fairly standard poser models, but there’s something eerie about the characters’ dusty mannequin-like appearances.

As a forensic CSI you’ll spend the game picking through evidence, piecing together conversations and uncovering what a mess the heiress’s life was. It reminds us of nothing so much as a mash-up of CSI and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

You can dive into Forest Grove’s detective work when it arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in Q3 2022.
