Asus ROG Phone 3

ASUS ROG Gaming PhoneASUS ROG Gaming Phone

Release date: September 2020

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is my top pick for gaming cellphones for 2021. It has everything that you would possibly want in a gaming device, and it’s cons are truly minimal. And yes, gamers don’t care if the camera isn’t completely awesome. We’re not buying a phone to take romantic photos. Just saying.

It’s almost like someone used their actual brain when planning out this phone! Yay for humanity!

Here are the most notable features on the Asus ROG 3:

  • Refresh rate of 144Hz. It would make hummingbird jealous. This stat shares the top spot.
  • The chipset is Snapdragon 865 Plus (This is much stronger than the regular 865). This is incredible!
  • The battery is 6,000mAh. That’s enough to power a freakin nuclear plant. The most by far on this list.
  • Rounded design = more playing times and less dents in your palms!
  • A sick 6.59-inch Full HD Plus OLED display. This is amazing!

The obvious downside of the Asus Rog 3 is the price. It’s hovering between $900 – $1000 from Amazon, but honestly it’s worth the money. If you’re a serious gamer, it will be worth every cent! This is my TOP PICK on this list, by far!

OnePlus 8 Pro

OnePlus 8T Lunar SilverOnePlus 8T Lunar Silver

Another solid phone. There’s a reason that it is so high up on the list. It’s kinda of funny to see OnePlus turning into a real brand, but honestly this phone deserves the attention that it’s getting.

It’s not the top of this list but it is really really good! I’m impressed to say the least. Here’s the big headlines on this phone:

  • Refresh rate is 120Hz. This is top rate (not the best, but still awesome)
  • The chip is Snapdragon 865. Awesome and almost the top.
  • The battery is only 4,510mAh. It’s a solid effort but I would’ve liked to see something higher than 5,000 honestly.
  • The Resolution is QHD+. Wonderful

All in all, this phone is incredible. The price isn’t, but who’s counting their dollar bills when this phone is for sale.

Update: This phone seems to be discounted. The price is much more reasonable now. Check it out on Amazon.

LG V60 ThinQ

LG V60 ThinQ 5GLG V60 ThinQ 5G

The LG V60 ThinQ, like the rest of the gaming phones on the list is mighty solid. If you’re a Lords Mobile gamer, for example, you can expect serious speed while playing with any of these phones. This phone is incredible.

Here are some of the notable features:

  • The System chip is, like most of the others, a Snapdragon 865. It’s really solid, but not the very best
  • The Battery is A++ with s 5,000 mAh capacity, making it one of the best in the industry
  • The processor is a Octa-core, 2840 MHz, Kryo 585, 64-bit, 7 nm. Again, really good, but not the best.

One of the best things about this phone is the price! This phone’s price to specs ratio is probably the best on the list! Amazon has incredible prices on the LG V60 ThinQ.

Motorola Edge Plus

Motorola Edge Solar Black for GamingMotorola Edge Solar Black for Gaming

The Motorola Edge + is a great phone for gaming. It’s not as powerful as some of the other phones on this list but the chip and the battery are awesome. The Motorola also has somehow (don’t ask me how) managed to redeem their image, and are now bordering the status symbol of the iPhone. This has been one weird year…

Here are the notable features of the Motorola Edge Plus:

  • The processor is Octa-core, 2840 MHz, Kryo 585, 64-bit, 7 nm (Good, but not the top of this list)
  • The battery is solid at 5,000mAh
  • The System chip is, like most of the others, a Snapdragon 865. Awesome stuff
  • OLED. Enough said…

All in all, this Motorola Edge + is fantastic. The price is somewhere in the middle… The best price for the Edge Plus that I’ve seen (as with almost all of these devices) has been on Amazon.

Sony Xperia 1 II

Sony Xperia 1 II 5GSony Xperia 1 II 5G

The Sony Xperia is a good phone, but I’m not sure if it belongs on this list of “gaming phones”. One of my definitions of a gaming phone is that it needs a battery that can handle serious gaming – for a long time without charging. Also keep in mind that charging and playing will heat the device up…

That being said, the rest of specs are enough to push it onto this list…

Here are the notable moments for the Sony Xperia 1 II:

  • Battery with 4000 mAh. Eww
  • Octa-core, 2840 MHz, Kryo 585, 64-bit, 7 nm. Good
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. Solid
  • Internal Space is 256GB. Nice

Ok. Here’s the link to buy it from Amazon. Notice: It’s bloody expensive compared to other options and I’m really not sure why…

iPhone 12 Pro

iPhone 12 Pro for GamingiPhone 12 Pro for Gaming

I’m annoyed that I have to put the stupid iPhone on this list, but I know that a lot of you are addicts and so this list won’t be complete without this DREADFUL options as well. Read my article on Apple.

Here are the horrible iPhone features:

  • 60Hz refresh rate. Yes you read that correctly. That’s 1/3 of the ROG and Red Magic…
  • The battery is 3687 mAh. Yes, that’s the worst one on the list. I’m throwing up inside my mouth as I type
  • The Apple A14 Bionic Chip is the only redeeming quality to the latest iPhone. Aisde for having two less cores it seems to out class the Snapdragon 865. Ok. One win for Apple…
  • Hexa-core, 64-bit, 5 nm. Note that it’s Hex vs Oct, but otherwise very impressive…

Listen, if you want to get an iPhone and you want to do gaming, this will be your best option. Here’s a link to buy the iPhone 12 Pro.

Final Thought

The ROG is the top winner without a doubt. If you are addicted to Samsung, I recommend going with the Samsung S23 Ultra. And if you’re addicted to Apple, you have serious problems, but definitely stick with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
