Apex Legends is a Battle Royale that has been out since 2019. Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Collaboration is the game’s first collab, and here’s all we know about it

Apex Legends has been out for almost four years now. The game had no collaborations with other media until now. Apex is starting its first collab with a bang, partnering with the gaming behemoth Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (FFVIIR).

Final Fantasy will reach the shores of Apex on January 9, 2024. The event brings a lot to the table, never seen in Apex before—a brand new takeover, iconic skins, accessories, and more. We will break down everything we know about the event in this article.

Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Takeover

Apex is bringing forth a new way to play the unranked Battle Royale. Taking elements from Final Fantasy, the duos’ and trios’ modes are getting a complete takeover.

The Buster Sword R2R5

The takeover shall bring forth the Buster Sword R2R5 inspired by Final Fantasy’s protagonist, Cloud’s Buster Sword. The sword can be found off-drop and in care packages around the map. The blade can be equipped by every Legend in the game. The Buster Sword will allow players to perform light and heavy melee attacks, a new concept in Apex. Successful hits with the sword will charge it up for a Limit Break. We are yet to see the Limit Break in the game. It will also allow players to block incoming bullets and reduce the damage taken. It can also be used to close gaps between the player and an enemy for an up close and personal attack.

Materia

Another unique addition to the game will be the materia hop-ups. If you cannot get the Buster Sword off-drop, look for Cactuar Ticks throughout the map. These will contain color-coded materia hop-ups that can upgrade your weapons and give them unique stats. Final Fantasy inspires the stats and adds some of the games’ features to Apex.

The colors and their abilities are:

• Blue Materia: Heals the player when damage is dealt
• Green Materia: Reloading empty weapons releases an areal shockwave
• Purple Materia: Does random critical damage
• Red Materia: Summons forth a Nessie for help
• Yellow Materia: Displays enemies’ remaining health

Apex Legends X Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Cosmetics

The collaboration will bring forward some iconic looks inspired by Final Fantasy for our beloved Legends. A total of 36 new items are to be added to the game. These include Legend skins, weapon skins, sticker packs, and last but definitely not least, a Mythic Melee Cosmetic for all Legends to use.

There will be six legendary skins for selected Legends. They are Crypto, Wraith, Horizon, Valkyrie, Newcastle, and Wattson. Each skin is based on some of the main characters in Final Fantasy VII.

The Buster Sword R5 will be an heirloom kind of cosmetic. However, unlike an heirloom, it can be used with every legend.

Collaboration Event Store

The store will be decked out with accessories relating to the event for the entire event’s duration. Additionally, the event will have its currency, Gil, that can be obtained through completing in-game challenges. Gils will allow players to buy event-specific items in a limited-time-only store. Badges and stat trackers will also return with this event. 

Twitch Drops

The event will also bring forth twitch drops. Players must connect their EA account to their Twitch account to avail of these rewards. The rewards consist of event-specific stickers. The streams will be held between January 12-30, 2024. Players will have to garner specific watch times to achieve particular rewards during the streams.
