If you’re an Xbox gamer, you might not be familiar with Bandai Namco’s Taiko no Tatsujin series. For shame.
This drum-based rhythm game series is much bigger in the east than it is here in the west, though a PS4 and Switch release in the last few years has seen its popularity grow. Arcade machines exist for the game, too, with loveable drum-shaped characters Don and Katsu being quite the icons. And finally, Xbox gamers can get in on the action from 27th January, when Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master releases on Xbox Game Pass.
If you’re unfamiliar with the franchise, Taiko no Tatsujin is a rhythm game where notes take one of two forms: a red ‘Don’ note, or a blue ‘Katsu’ note. Like all rhythm games, your aim is to hit each note in time with the beat. The more accurate you are, the better your score will be.

Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master sports over 70 pieces of music, including a mixture of classic tracks and popular songs from other Bandai Namco franchises. There’s a single-player mode where you can work through each track, or you can perform in Ranked Matches to complete for a place on a global leaderboard. There’s also various local multiplayer modes, too, where you can challenge your friends and family.
While it’ll be available for Xbox Game Pass members as part of their subscription, Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master will also be available to purchase on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s out on 27th January. If you enjoy fun and colourful music-based games, don’t miss it.
