This Esports Academy Cares About Your Mental Health

Date:

Mastercard Gamer Academy will offer a unique opportunity for ten aspiring gamers to embark on a professional eSports career. The program underscores a focus on inclusivity and represents a move towards diversifying the eSports community.

According to their release, Mastercard Gamer Academy is not just another esports tournament or academy. It’s a comprehensive program aimed at providing real-world experiences and mentorship to gamers worldwide. With an emphasis on inclusivity, the program is geared towards breaking barriers that have traditionally hindered diverse groups, particularly women and older gamers, from entering the eSports arena.

The Academy’s curriculum is designed to cover all aspects of professional gaming, from mental health and resilience to personal branding and content creation. This approach not only equips participants with gaming skills but also prepares them for the multifaceted nature of the eSports industry.

Romain Bigeard, General Manager of League of Legends at G2 eSports, says:

“The Academy is designed to explore all facets of esports and gaming, shedding light on diverse career opportunities within the industry.”

He continues; “We want to give participants, as well as people watching at home, the opportunity to gain experience and learn from some of the most talented and well-respected people in the industry. Our goal is to create a clearer pathway to a career in eSports and to inspire and motivate people to launch their professional journey.”

Unparalleled access and exclusive perks

Participants in the program will receive an array of benefits, chief among them being all-expenses-paid trips to significant eSports events. These include backstage access to the 2024 League of Legends World Championship and the 2024 Valorant Champions. In addition, attendees will have a chance to visit the G2 eSports Headquarters in Berlin, providing an immersive experience in the heart of professional gaming.

Moreover, the program offers direct interaction with G2 eSports’ professional athletes, including teams from League of Legends and Valorant. This level of access to seasoned professionals is rare and invaluable for anyone aspiring to a career in esports.

Empowering through education and mentorship

A pivotal component of the Mastercard Gamer Academy is its educational curriculum. This aspect is not limited to improving gaming skills but extends to personal marketing and brand engagement. Participants will undergo digital and in-person sessions with mentors, focusing on various aspects crucial for a sustainable career in esports.

Additionally, the program will feature online episodes accessible to fans globally. These episodes aim to disseminate knowledge and insights into improving one’s potential in gaming and esports, effectively extending the program’s reach beyond its direct participants.

A foray into diversity

Mastercard’s choice of G2 eSports as a partner for this initiative is significant. G2 eSports is renowned for its focus on female representation in esports, a vital focus of the Academy. Even though women constitute nearly half of the gaming population, their representation in professional eSports is still lacking. The Academy aims to address this imbalance and create more opportunities for diverse groups.

The program is open to individuals worldwide aged 21 and above. Prospective participants must submit an online application with a video demonstrating their passion for gaming and eSports. The deadline for submissions is reportedly Dec. 17.
