Like a Dragon: Ishin Features Kenny Omega And Rahul Kohli As Powerful Summons

Date:

The Like a Dragon–formerly known as Yakuza–series games have had no shortage of star power over the years, and for the upcoming remake of Like a Dragon: Ishin there’ll be cameos from former AEW world champion Kenny Omega and The Haunting of Bly Manor’s Rahul Kohli. Omega and Kohli will join the game in the form of Trooper Cards that can be wielded by protagonist Sakamoto Ryoma, a combat feature that grants temporary but devastating power-ups and special abilities when activated in battle.

Omega and Kohli will provide “peerless” strength when they appear as Shinsengumi officers, according to Sega and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, and they’ll be two of the six special guests who join Ryoma’s revolution in Ishin. All special guest Trooper Cards will be available worldwide as free downloadable content starting early access on February 17, and each one will have unique abilities.

Omega’s card, Essence of the One-Winged Angel, leans into the best bout machine’s love for Final Fantasy VII and sees him cut down foes with angel wing slashes. Kohli’s card is Essence of Firestorm, and it can incinerate enemies with fiery waves of righteous anger.

“I’ve been a fan of the Like a Dragon series for years, and to be forever immortalized in Like a Dragon: Ishin!, the newest entry in one of the most iconic game franchise of all time, is surreal,” Omega said in a press statement. “I’m so excited about my Trooper Card, and I think players are going to love the artwork and attack animation–and the damage I can deal to enemies!”

“As someone who is emotionally invested in the Like a Dragon story, I’m nervously excited to take on this mantle of being a small part of Ryoma’s journey,” Kohli added. “The close relationship that Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have with their fan community, has been really exciting to see manifest in these cards.”

Like a Dragon: Ishin, which was considered to be an “impossible” port for many years, launches on February 18 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Recent gameplay has shown off why you should always bring a sword to a gunfight, and beyond this remake, fans can also look forward to Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Like a Dragon 8 in 2024.
