The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jaylen Wright 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Wright played at Tennessee for three seasons, but really put himself on the NFL Draft map in 2023. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, Wright signed with Tennessee out of the state of North Carolina. In his freshman season, he rushed for 409 yards and four touchdowns. His role increased in 2022, as he had 875 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. His play aided the Volunteers in winning 11 games that season. Wright had his best season in 2023 with 1,013 rushing yards, 141 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The Volunteers won nine games behind Wright’s good play.

Following the season, Wright declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.

Jaylen Wright Strengths

Wright has a good build for an NFL running back. He stands at 5-foot-10 1/2 inches and 210 pounds and carries the weight well. His frame has a decent potential for power, although he could use it more to run defenders over. To go with his size, he also has limited wear and tear on his body, as he was in a backfield that split carries during his college career.

Especially for his size, Wright has great speed. He ran a 4.38 40-Yard Dash at the NFL Combine and that speed shows up on tape. Wright is a home-run threat who had several longer carries at the collegiate level. His acceleration, speed and open-field vision help him produce big plays for an offense.

While he isn’t the shiftiest running back in the class, he can make defenders miss. He has a nice jump cut to help him navigate crowded areas and find the hole. In the open field, he is more of a linear runner, but can make defenders miss on occasion, extending plays in the process.

Jaylen Wright Weaknesses

During his college career, Wright had too many fumbles. He needs to show more ball security to be trusted on a consistent basis. Covering the ball up as he goes through the line of scrimmage will help him hang onto the ball more.

There are times where Wright can be indicisive on where he wants to run. He can miss open running lanes because of this. His vision is solid overall, but not the most consistent because he needs to diagnose running lanes quicker at the line of scrimmage.

He can be better on third downs. Wright was solid as a pass catcher in 2023, but that was the only year he showed that ability. He can add to his route tree to be more of a receiving threat. Wright also has the size to be decent in pass protection, but can work on identifying where pressure is coming from and then squaring his block up to really protect the quarterback.
