Those who watched the entirety of last year’s Game Awards may remember the announcement of Have a Nice Death, a sidescrolling action rogue-lite boasting a crisp hand-drawn art style. Today’s gaming market has no shortage of action rogue-lites, but this one still managed to stick out thanks to its incredibly polished aesthetic and fun, quirky premise.

Those who were eager to try it out will, luckily, get an opportunity to do so somewhat sooner than expected. Have a Nice Death will drop onto Steam Early Access come March 8, and players can purchase the game for only $14.99 USD.

Establish order through force

According to a press release, Have a Nice Death places players within the nonexistent shoes of Death, who serves as the “founder and CEO of Death, Incorporated.” The primary purpose of this “giant underworld organization” involves “processing souls in the afterlife,” but unfortunately, Death’s employees don’t do a very good job at following company protocol. To bring them back in line, Death will need to explore the departments in the corporation’s headquarters and make use of “an arsenal of weapons, spells and special skills.” The department bosses and their minions tend to not go down without a serious fight, however. Reigning them all in will inevitably require several runs and failed attempts.

The Early Access version of Have a Nice Death will allow players to explore “the first five departments” of Death, Incorporated. This should serve as an efficient enough teaser of what the final game will entail, and hopefully, the gameplay will turn out just as polished as the aesthetics. Of course, being an Early Access release, some bugs and other issues are inevitable. Ideally, the developers will take whatever feedback players provide to heart and polish the game further for the final release.
