Elden Ring, like others Souls games, is primarily about combat. As such, there’s a good chance that you pressed a button by accident while talking to NPCs. Thankfully, similar to past titles, you can try to atone. Here’s our Elden Ring guide to help you use Celestial Dew in the Church of Vows to clear hostilities if you accidentally attack NPCs.

Elden Ring guide – Removing NPC hostility by using the Celestial Dew in the Church of Vows
There are specific locations in Elden Ring where combat isn’t allowed, such as Roundtable Hold and Rennala’s chamber. For the vast majority of areas, though, you’ll be slashing, smashing, and spellcasting to your heart’s content. In some cases, you could end up hitting a friendly NPC, such as Sorceress Sellen — both the vendor and prisoner variants, mind you.
If this happens, then you still have hope. You just need to find the Church of Vows and some Celestial Dew.
The Church of Vows in Elden Ring
The Church of Vows in Elden Ring is located in the eastern section of Liurnia of the Lakes:
- If you’re coming from the north, you can travel down the road past the Frenzied Flame Village (just try to hide behind walls and obstacles when the “Eye of Sauron” tower sees you or you’ll get afflicted by madness).
- If you’re coming from the south, you can find a sloping path from the swamps that lead to the highway.
- These roads are interconnected, and you’ll soon find yourself on the hill where the church is.
Inside is a talking turtle, Miriel. This cool fella sells Incantation and Sorcery spells (i.e., Blessing’s Boon, Magic Glintblade, and Carian Greatsword). He also tells you a bit of background info about the Lands Between. Moreover, he suggests using the statue at the back to “cleanse yourself of sins.” This implies atonement, a way to restore hostile/dead NPCs that you smacked around by accident.
Note 1: This does not work for NPCs that are killed off as part of the story/quest, as well as anyone in “you know where.”
Note 2: If you hit Miriel, he says that he’s quite forgiving, so no worries.
Celestial Dew locations in Elden Ring
However, to make use of the statue in the Church of Vows, we do need to collect Celestial Dew in Elden Ring. Here are a few that are easy to grab.
The first is from a Bloodhound Knight outside the Academy of Raya Lucaria. When you enter via the magical main gate, look behind you to see a pathway (don’t interact with the rune). Follow it past several wolves and a merchant. At the end, you’ll fight a Bloodhound Knight which drops the item.
There are two more that can be found in Ainsel River Well, which is just east of the Church of Vows.
The term “well” is an understatement, because there’s a massive area down below.
Once you’re down there, head inside the main tunnel and turn right at the fork. Then, turn left in the next chamber.
You should find a pillar overlooking the ground level. To your left, there’s a ledge with the Celestial Dew.
Next, jump down and follow the passageway. You’ll reach an area with a Rockslinger Demon. Use the walls as cover and make it all the way inside the temple. Ahead, you’ll spot the Ainsel River Well map, as well as a merchant. He sells the item for 7,500 runes
Note: There are other Celestial Dew items that you can find in Elden Ring. I would suggest checking the secret areas such as Nokron Eternal City and Nokstella Eternal City.
