Ducks Win Exciting Overtime Thriller Over In State Rival Sharks

Date:

Anaheim pulled off a late comeback to beat San Jose 3-2 in overtime Wednesday night.

The Anaheim Ducks hosted rival San Jose for their second matchup in just eleven days. The Ducks came in riding a three game point streak. It was a night where Anaheim needed a big third period to bring them up and Troy Terry who has been the Ducks best player of late tied things up late. Then all-star Frank Vatrano put in the game winner. It was the Ducks ninth time with a third game

It was Isac Lundstom starting the scoring with his second goal of the year with a wrist shot. Shortly after at the 6:59 mark on a night where Ducks players spent 18 minutes in the penalty box Anthony Duclair scored a power play goal to tie things at one. There would be no more action in the first period scoring wise.

The second period would only have one goal. A monster slap shot from Marc-Edouard Vlasic late in the period with 2:03 left.

Going into the third knowing they were down the Ducks came out firing with 15 shots in third. Although they could not find the back of the net. It was not until Troy Terry played hero with just one minute left in the game tying things 2-2 with a wrist shot. The Ducks had their goalie pulled for the extra man. Leo Carlson had good vision; he knew exactly where Terry was. The Ducks had not scored since the 2:12 mark of the first period. As a result the game would go to overtime.

Then as he goes into All-Star weekend to represent the Ducks Frank Vatrano scored the game winner in overtime with under a minute left as the Ducks close out the first half of their season. Vatrano leads the team with 22 goals. Vatrano sped into the offensive zone on a break, scored, and launched his stick into the crowd.

Terry is on a five game point streak, and also has recorded points in six of his last seven games. Adam Henrique who picked up an assist also is on a five game point streak.

Anaheim will enter the all-star break picking up seven out of a possible eight points in their last four games.

It will be eight days before the Ducks play again when they host the Oilers.

You can catch Frank Vatrano representing the Ducks in the All-Star game Saturday at 3:00 P.M. EST 6:00 P.M. PST on ABC and ESPN+.
