With the 2024 Summer Olympics just over two months away, Paris is gearing up to welcome athletes from around the world. However, as preparations intensify for the grand event, cybersecurity has emerged as a critical focus for organizers.

In recent years, the sophistication of cyber threats has increased, prompting the use of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to counter these dangers. The 2024 Olympics will see significant cybersecurity measures to safeguard the event from potential cyberattacks.

One of the innovative solutions being employed is Blackbird.AI’s Constellation platform. This AI-based narrative intelligence platform detects and analyzes disinformation narratives, assessing their risk levels and providing context to help organizations make informed decisions.

Sarah Boutboul, an intelligence analyst at Blackbird.AI, explained, “We have a platform where we can discover, analyze, and investigate online conversations on any platform and determine the risk they pose.”

The platform’s ability to monitor and respond to narrative attacks in real-time is crucial, as these attacks can cause substantial financial loss and reputational damage. Constellation supports over 25 languages and operates across various platforms, including the dark web, social media, and news outlets, providing a comprehensive defense against disinformation.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has also highlighted the importance of responsibly embracing AI within sports. Last month, IOC President Thomas Bach emphasized the need to use AI to protect athletes from online harassment and enhance the viewing experience for audiences. “We are determined to exploit the vast potential of AI in a responsible way,” Bach said.

In addition to AI-driven cybersecurity measures, the French government has bolstered its defenses against digital threats. Viginum, an operational arm focused on countering digital foreign interference, has been actively identifying and mitigating disinformation campaigns targeting France’s ability to host the Olympics. President Emmanuel Macron established Viginum in 2021 to address these emerging threats.

As Paris prepares for the influx of athletes and visitors, the emphasis on cybersecurity is crucial given the evolving challenges of hosting a global event in the digital age. With AI-driven platforms like Constellation and robust government initiatives, the aim is to ensure a safe and secure environment for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
