Will there be new DLC for Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles?

Date:

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles released on 2021, and saw its last DLC launch in late 2022. And though much of the player base has moved on from the game, due to its previously poor balance, the game has been brought back to life thanks to its most recent patch update.

This patch update vastly revamped the relevant meta of the game, fixing many of the balance breaking imbalances while giving players hope for more content. This then begs the question, ‘Will there be new DLC for Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles?’

The answer to this question is a speculative yes. As of now, there is no official source confirming this, but speculation of Bandai Namco’s gaming update trends can be made.

Demon Slayer DLC is likely on the way

Bandai Namco holds many of the licenses to Anime games, such as Naruto and Dragonball Z. And these two franchises both have games that are still updating. Games like Shinobi Strikers and Xenoverse 2 — despite many claiming the games have long outlived their lifespan, are still going relatively strong.

For Xenoverse 2, Bandai Namco planned extra downloadable content aligning with the anime source material. If Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles follows the same pattern, then there will highly likely be more DLC coming the community’s way. After all, Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village arc has only just begun, and is sure to become a popular hit.

Although Xenoverse and Demon Slayer are published by Bandai Namco, Xenoverse 2 is developed by Dimps while Demon Slayer is developed by CyberConnect 2 — so this isn’t necessarily the best comparison. Thankfully, there’s another prime comparison to be made.

Storm 4, one of the most beloved Naruto games, was also developed by CyberConnect 2. This game follows the same general anime arena fighter formula as Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles. And Storm 4 received DLC years after its initial release, debuting Boruto characters following the source material. Therefore, it’s once again very likely Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles is setting up for more DLC as well.

Some may argue that they might as well make a brand new game. But that costs a lot more money to do, versus simply updating their preexisting entry and adding more downloadable content. Considering the recent balance update was absolutely massive for the game, the developers clearly don’t intend on letting the game just keel over and die.

Without getting into spoilers for the series, the new season of Demon Slayer has already debuted some new characters. These new characters make for easy new DLC for the series. And why make an entire new game when the developers can simply focus on creating singular characters instead?
