Washington Commanders Release Carson Wentz

The Washington Commanders have released quarterback Carson Wentz the team announced on Monday. Releasing him will save over $26 million in cap space.

Wentz, 30, was acquired by Washington before the 2022 season. He passed for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 62.3 percent completion in eight games played for the Commanders.

Before his time with the Commanders, Wentz spent time with the Colts and Eagles. In his seven-year career, Wentz has tallied 22,129 passing yards, 151 touchdowns and 66 interceptions on 62.6 percent completion.

The Commanders have publicly stated that Sam Howell will be the starting quarterback moving forward.

Wentz is now an unrestricted free agent.
