Vergeway Walkthrough Chapter 9

Date:

This is currently the second-to-final Chapter of the Vergeway, but I have no doubts IGG will release a lot more chapters over the coming months (or years). With that said, let’s get started with the walkthrough.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 1

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Defeat all Enemies
  • 146 Enemies to defeat
  • Enemies encountered: Bolt Tower, Destroyer Squad, Hawkmen, Bon Appeti, Boommeister
  • Card selection: Sword Squad, Cavalry Squad, Ballista Squad, Deadly Shot, Whirlpool, Tally, Indigo, Earl

This one’s a bit unorthodox for one of the latest available stages since I’ve found the most success with early units.

All you have to do for this stage is to pretty much spam every unit when it’s off cooldown, and you have the Aether for it.

However, start stockpiling Aether once the enemy count drops below 90. At 80 enemies, you can use Whirlpool straight on the enemy Stronghold (where new enemies spawn). Doing this will prevent the huge wave of Destroyer Squads from passing around your units. Block any Destroyers that pass with Cavalry Squads since they’ll chase them down, then regroup with your other units.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 2

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy all Towers
  • 20 Towers to destroy
  • Enemies encountered: Guardians, Magma Tower, Bolt Tower, Fire Tower, Hardrox
  • Card selection: Monolith Tower, Assassin Tower, Earthquake, Cavalry Squad, Trebuchet Squad, Indigo, Bran

This stage requires you to be a bit quick early on but patient later.

The enemy starts with two Bolt Towers, which immediately begin firing on your Stronghold. You need to place two Monolith Towers to soak up their shots and two Assassin Towers behind them to clear any approaching soldiers. Place more Monolith Towers once the initial ones get destroyed.

Use Earthquake to remove Bolt Towers when possible. Beware, the enemy places more Bolt Towers near the farther edges until 2:20, so make sure to destroy any new towers. An Earthquake at 2:20 on the top right corner should clear that one from all Bolt Towers. Destroy the bottom two Bolt Towers the same way.

After that, use the Earthquake to clear the smaller towers around the Hardrox, then wait. You need about 30 Aether for the final push, which will take you to the last minute.

Deploy your officers, Sword Squads, and Trebuchet Squads to make the final push and destroy the Hardrox Towers. Replenish your attacking forces when needed.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 3

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy Stronghold
  • 40,000 Stronghold health to beat
  • Enemies encountered: Shield Squad, Radiant Obelisk, Frozen Obelisk, Cannoneer Squad, Bombin’ Goblin.
  • Card selection: Monolith Tower, Catapult Squad, Destroyer Squad, Arrow Rain, Deadly Shot, Aegis

This one can be very easy if you follow the instructions closely.

You need to start by attacking the frontline towers using a Monolith Tower to tank hits and Catapult Squads to take it down. Use Deadly Shot to clear away enemies around the Monolith Tower. Place more Catapults when you have spare Aether for them.

Proceed to the next line of enemy towers using the same tactic, putting Monolith Towers in range.

Deploy Aegis behind your Catapult Squads to allow him to kill any units that pass your Towers.

As soon as you clear the final line of towers, deploy a Monolith in the third column from the right to soak hits, then place Destroyers behind it to start hammering the enemy Stronghold. The enemy will place more towers and units to defend itself, but it’s going to be too late by then. Three Destroyer Squads should destroy the enemy Stronghold before the defense force catches up.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 4

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Defeat all Enemies
  • 33 Enemies to defeat
  • Enemies encountered: Radiant Obelisk, Finman, Snapper, Delak, Incinerator
  • Card selection: Bolt Tower, Assassin Tower, Monolith Tower

Even though the low number of enemies implies this stage is difficult, unlocking the Bolt Tower pretty much trivializes it.

All you have to do is place one Monolith Tower in the fourth column, two Assassin Towers in the third column, then fill all spots from your Stronghold onward with Bolt Towers.

Their fast fire rate and insane damage should get you through the stage without any problems, especially if you’ve managed to level them up a few times. Early level-ups are not particularly difficult to come by and are worth more than later stages, at least, for combat improvements.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 5

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy Stronghold
  • 41,500 Stronghold health to beat
  • Enemies encountered: Monolith Tower, Dragon Squad, Cavalry Squad, Huey Hops, Snow Beast
  • Card selection: Stone Tower, Destroyer Squad, Hawkmen, Tally, Aegis, Earl, Bran

This stage is relatively straightforward as well. The single Stone Tower here is just a decoy, so you don’t really need a Monolith due to its increased cost.

Place the Stone Tower in a left corner (any will do), deploy all your officers, and start placing down Hawkmen to remove all enemies. Bran and Aegis should have enough HP at this point to tank towers and enemies while Hawkmen and Earl take everything down.

You can use Deadly Shot to clear groups of enemies or use Indigo to have more tower damage, but it’s not really necessary.

When you clear all the towers and get close to the enemy Stronghold, deploy Destroyer Squads to deal with it quickly. Even if some enemies escape towards your Stronghold, the Stone Tower should give you enough time.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 6

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Defeat all Enemies
  • 130 Enemies to defeat
  • Enemies encountered: Destroyer Squad, Yeti, Bullseye Tower, Lion Riders, Saberfang
  • Card selection: Cannoneer Squad, Hawkmen, Cyclone, Tally, Stella, Blake, Earl, Bran

This one is strangely easy, and I don’t think IGG set the difficulty levels right when designing these later levels.

Pretty much all you have to do in this stage is to deploy all of your officers and use Hawkmen and Cannoneer Squads as your main ranged damage dealers.

Two Cyclones will be enough to take care of the towers if you aim each one between the two towers in the column.

The AI spawns stronger units periodically, so don’t get surprised if your melee officers hit the bucket. Just re-deploy them as soon as possible, and you should do fine.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 7

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy Stronghold
  • 42,500 Stronghold health to beat
  • Enemies encountered: Destroyer Squad, Bolt Tower, Lion Riders, Mastercook, Berserker
  • Card selection: Sword Squad, Ballista Squad, Destroyer Squad, Hawkmen, Earthquake, Tally, Aegis, Bran

For this stage, there’s only a tiny bit of thought involved at the beginning, but it makes the stage much easier.

Start by removing the three Bolt Towers in the back with a single Earthquake. They start attacking your Stronghold but won’t deal enough damage in time.

With the towers removed, deploy all your officers, then put down some Sword Squads and Hawkmen. This team should be more than enough to handle all incoming enemy units.

After you’ve cleaved through the enemy units, putting more Hawkmen and Sword Squads along the way, deploy Destroyer Squads when you’ve approached the enemy Stronghold enough.

A few Destroyers will take down the Stronghold fast. Even if some enemy Destroyers manage to pass through your army, they won’t make it to your side of the field in time.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 8

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy all Towers
  • 15 Towers to destroy
  • Enemies encountered: Hammer Squad, Coffer Guardian, Delak, Totempest, Bouldur
  • Card selection: Monolith Tower, Bolt Tower, Cyclone, Earthquake

In this stage, all you have to do is use your two chosen skills effectively, and the rest is quite easy.

Start by setting up a Monolith Tower in the second column to the left, then place a Bolt Tower in the first column. Due to its infinite range, it will serve as both attack and defense. Two more Bolt Towers will pretty much guarantee nothing passes through your defense.

If the Monolith ever gets destroyed, replace it.

Use Earthquakes and Cyclones whenever possible to clear the clumps of towers on the enemy side of the field. There’s pretty much no thought involved in the process; just place the skills down so they cover all the towers in the bunch whenever they’re off cooldown.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 9

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Defeat all Enemies
  • 111 Enemies to defeat
  • Enemies encountered: Cannon Train, Assassin Tower, Hawkmen, Lion Riders, Boommeister
  • Card selection: Sword Squad, Trebuchet Squad, Deadly Shot, Tally, Stella, Aegis, Blake, Earl

This can be one of the trickiest stages to beat if you’re not proactive enough. The Boommeister is one of the most threatening opponents to beat in this stage, and you have to start focusing on him immediately.

I’ve had success by placing a Sword Squad to soak the initial hit, then using Tally, Stella, Earl, and Deadly Shot to take him and surrounding enemies down quickly. Use Aegis and Blake to tank tower shots while placing Trebuchet Squads out of range to take those down quickly.

Focus on killing the next Boommeister as soon as he spawns the same way as the first one.

At this point (2:00 and onwards), you should have enough Sword Squads and Trebuchet Squads around to take down pretty much any unit that spawns. Replenish units whenever you have the Aether for it.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 10

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy Stronghold
  • 44,000 Stronghold health to beat
  • Enemies encountered: Ice Tower, Monolith Tower, Resistoise, Finman, Animare
  • Card selection: Assassin Tower, Monolith Tower, Bolt Tower, Destroyer Squad

This stage is among the easiest in the chapter, partially due to Bolt Towers being more or less overpowered.

You can use a Monolith Tower to soak up all the hits from incoming enemies. An Assassin Tower in a column behind it will clear some of the tougher enemies that come your way, like Animares.

Start placing down Bolt Towers as fast as possible. Even though they have infinite range and can go in the leftmost column, place them slightly forward to take less time to change targets. The multitude of Bolt Towers will provide enough firepower to take down units and towers with enough time to spare.

Replace the Monolith Tower when needed.

When your summoning region has approached the enemy Stronghold enough, place down a Monolith Tower to tank hits and deploy Destroyer Squads. After placing down few Squads, the victory should be yours.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 11

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Defeat all Enemies
  • 153 Enemies to defeat
  • Enemies encountered: Crossbow Tower, Double Cannon, Sword Squad, Golem, Golem (don’t ask why)
  • Card selection: Arrow Tower, Hawkmen, Earthquake, Stella, Aegis, Blake, Earl, Bran

Stage 11’s “defeat the enemies” theme is pretty similar to the ones found in the previous chapter. I’ve chosen the Arrow Tower because it’s the cheapest option, and it will literally only serve as a decoy.

I’d like to say this stage requires some thought, but that would be a lie. As a result, I don’t think you should have a problem clearing it.

Start by placing the Arrow Tower in a corner to act as a target for incoming enemies. Deploy all your officers, and the first of many Hawkmen you’ll summon this stage.

Use Earthquake to destroy all the towers on the enemy’s side of the field.

Spam more Hawkmen and re-deploy any officers that happen to die during the fight. If a Double Cannon passes by your army, just spawn some Hawkmen in front of them at the first opportunity.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 12

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Defeat all Enemies
  • 140 Enemies to defeat
  • Enemies encountered: Fire Tower, Fighter Squad, Guardians, Gnome, Voodoo Shaman
  • Card selection: Cavalry Squad, Hawkmen, Starfall, Cyclone, Aegis, Indigo, Earl, Bran

In this stage, all you have to do is keep up the offensive.

Start by deploying every soldier squad and officer you’ve got. The enemy is hopelessly outclassed in a straight fight for the first half a minute.

Use Cyclone to clear the groups of towers scattered on the enemy’s side of the field. With good positioning, you can do it with only two Cyclones.

When the Voodoo Shaman appears, stun it with Starfall to prevent it from dealing damage to your troops.

Deploy more squads when you can (typically when they come off cooldown), and re-deploy officers if they happen to die.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 13

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy Stronghold
  • 45,500 Stronghold health to beat
  • Enemies encountered: Stone Tower, Lightning Tower, Lion Riders, Mecha Trojan, Grove Guardian
  • Card selection: Hawkmen, Earthquake, Tally, Stella, Aegis, Blake, Earl, Bran

At this point, it really becomes essential to have leveled-up units, which might take some time. Hawkmen can easily carry you with their ranged damage if they’re level 6 or above.

The strategy here is pretty simple.

Deploy your officers whenever available, and never stop creating new Hawkmen in the backline to keep the damage output high.

Use Earthquake on the back group of towers to remove the Lightning Towers before your troops get into range. If you have some spare Aether, you can repeat an Earthquake or two on the remaining towers. However, since Stone Towers don’t really do much damage, they can be whittled down eventually. The Stronghold is quite easy to destroy with enough Hawkmen pushing through.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 14

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy Stronghold
  • 46,000 Stronghold health to beat
  • Enemies encountered: Snow Tower, Hoarder, Hawkmen, Blackwing, Chaos Dragon
  • Card selection: Monolith Tower, Bolt Tower, Destroyer Squad, Cavalry Squad, Earthquake, Bran

We’re nearing the end of Chapter 9, and it isn’t getting much more difficult if you’ve got high-level units at your disposal.

Placing a Monolith Tower in the middle of the second column and a Bolt Tower at the opposite end prevents the Blackwing’s AoE breath from reaching the Bolt. You can also put the Monolith a bit further in front if you want to be sure.

Three or four Bolt Towers in the back should hold most opposing units back without much trouble. Just replace the Monolith when needed to keep them from getting aggroed by enemies.

Use the Earthquake to destroy the Snow Towers. Each Earthquake can hit two towers in a column if you aim at the column’s center.

Wait until you’ve gathered a bit of Aether, most of the forces have passed through, and your summoning region is close to the enemy Stronghold. Then, deploy your squads and Bran to start an offense. You can use an additional skill like Starfall to stun enemies that spawn and give your Destroyer Squads more time to attack.

Vergeway Chapter 9 Stage 15

  • Start with 70 Aether and 6,000 Stronghold health
  • Objective: Destroy all Towers
  • 1 Tower to destroy
  • Enemies encountered: Destroyer Squad, Beastmaster, Jade Wyrm, Krabby, Mega Maggot
  • Card selection: Monolith Tower, Bolt Tower, Double Cannon, Deadly Shot

This one just needs proper timing to execute, but it shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve followed along so far.

You need to place a Monolith Tower at the top right corner of your summoning region or on the third row in that column. When a tower at one location gets close to being destroyed, place a Monolith in the other location. This strategy effectively tanks all enemies that aren’t Destroyer Squads.

Place Bolt Towers on the third or fourth column from the right; four to five will do. They will remove all Destroyers before they reach your Stronghold.

Deploy Double Cannons on the bottom of the second column from the right. Whenever you have spare Aether, place another squad to increase your effective damage. They immediately focus on the only tower you need to kill to win the stage.

Use Deadly Shot and any other cards you’ve chosen for the stage liberally to remove excess enemies. Anything good against soldiers and officers will do the trick.

Conclusion

With this, you have reached the end of the currently available Vergeway chapters. However, keep going back every day just to open the chests and level up the cards. It doesn’t take a lot of time to do.

You also get one more Power Key to open 30 more cards by finishing Chapter 9.

And now we wait for Chapter 10 and beyond.
