Toronto Ultra vs New York Subliners: Call of Duty League Championship 2023

Date:

Toronto Ultra vs New York Subliners will be the last match of the 2023 Call of Duty Season – but who will take it all?

12 teams started the journey to the 2023 CDL Champs, but only 8 made it to the event, as Los Angeles Guerrillas, Florida Mutineers, Las Vegas Legion and London Royal Ravens couldn’t get enough CDL Points. In the short span since the beginning of Champs this Thursday, 6 more teams joined the bottom 4, which leaves us the 2 best for the Finals: Toronto Ultra and New York Subliners.

Toronto Ultra vs New York Subliners Preview

Toronto Ultra

The team of Ultra got very close to winning a Call of Duty League Championship back in 2021, when they made it to the finals, but lost to Atlanta FaZe 5-3. However, this Toronto Ultra lineup is very different from the one 2 years ago, as Thomas “Scrappy” Ernst and Charlie “Hicksy” Hicks have joined the team. Together with Tobias “CleanX” Juul Jonsson and Jamie “Insight” Craven they managed to win the Stage 3 Major and are doing well in Champs too.

Toronto Ultra started out the ultimate challenge of the Call of Duty League against the 2022 Champions, Los Angeles Thieves, and beat them 3-2 after getting demolished in the first SnD and Control, but still managing to get up. Afterwards they made short work of Atlanta FaZe, defeating them 3-1, then went on to beat NYSL to get into the Grand Final. So far, they seem unstoppable, just like in Stage 3.

New York Subliners

NYSL is the only team this season which managed to win 2 Majors: they beat Seattle Surge in the last series of Stage 1 4-1, then defeated Atlanta FaZe in Major V 4-3. The 2023 Call of Duty League Championship is also the closest the team ever got to becoming legends, as their best finishes were two top 6 places in 2021 and 2022.

But now should be the time for the Subliners – if they can get their revenge on Ultra. Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez and co. beat Minnesota RØKKR in the first round of the Upper Bracket 3-2, then defeated OpTic Texas as well, only letting the Green Wall take 1 map. However, they couldn’t put a dent in TOR, falling to the Loser’s Bracket, where they beat Atlanta FaZe 3-1 to face their final opponent again.

Toronto Ultra vs New York Subliners Predictions

Toronto Ultra and New York Subliners met 6 times this season in various Stage of the Call of Duty League. While New York Subliners beat Hicksy and his teammates in the Stage 1 and Stage 5 Majors, Ultra have beat them 4 times before the start of the Championship. Moreover, the Canadians have schooled the New Yorkers in the upper bracket final, as NYSL couldn’t win a single map, and on El Asilo Control, they didn’t score a single point. If the Subliners couldn’t come up with a mirace overnight, Ultra could be looking at their first CDL Champs title!
