Team-Based FPS Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds Lands Early December

Date:

Four months ago inXile Entertainment announced that its next virtual reality (VR) title would be a purely multiplayer venture, Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds. After conducting a beta in September the studio is almost ready to launch the videogame, today confirming a December date.

Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds

Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is a team-based, 10 vs 10 shooter set in Antarctica. At launch there will be four maps making use of the abandoned military base and the snowy waste land which covers it. No multiplayer would be complete without a variety of gameplay modes with the studio including Attack and Defend, and Team Deathmatch.

What makes Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds a little different is that its got a sci-fi twist, with terrifying biomechanical creatures dubbed ‘The Function’ also inhabiting the maps. So as you hunt down your human opponents you’ve got to keep your eyes out for these things hunting both teams down.

For the most part Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is grounded in the real world when it comes to physics and the weaponry. Each team has a starting hub from where they can select a new loadout, with a variety of guns and secondary items like grenades available. You’ll have to accumulate cash on the battlefield to purchase a better arsenal, which ranges from rifles and pistols to machine guns and a couple of energy weapons. All the classic guns have manual reloading mechanics for that added sense of realism.

When the videogame arrives the studio will begin a multi-week Leaderboard Challenge event for players to participate in. The top five winners will get some awesome prizes, including an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, Oculus Quest 2, Amazon gift cards, and Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds swag.

inXile Entertainment will launch Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index headsets via the Oculus Store and Steam on 1st December 2020, retailing for $24.99 USD. Check out the next launch trailer below and for further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
