Pumpkin Spice Latte season is in full swing, and to mark the 20th anniversary of Starbucks’ fan-favorite beverage, the coffee giant is offering a new way to savor it: NFT collectibles.
On Thursday, Starbucks will release a series of Pumpkin Spice Latte digital stamps via Starbucks Odyssey, the company’s Web3 rewards and loyalty platform. The NFTs will be sold in four varieties to represent the qualities of the physical drinks: Spiced, Whipped, Iced, and Steamed.
Each NFT will be sold via an open edition, which means there’s no limit to how many can be minted and sold within the sale time frame, which lasts from Thursday, October 5, until Monday, October 9. The NFTs will be available for $20 apiece and grant Odyssey members 250 points apiece, with an as-yet-unrevealed “opportunity” provided to buyers of all four NFT stamps.
Only Odyssey members can purchase the NFTs. The artwork for purchased NFTs will be revealed on October 10.
Starbucks mints its NFTs on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. The company announced its Starbucks Odyssey platform in 2022 and launched it in a closed beta format last December. The platform remains in beta, although traditional Starbucks Rewards program members can sign up for a waitlist to request admission.
The coffee brand developed Starbucks Odyssey to reward avid customers with special perks and benefits beyond the free drinks and food offered through the usual Rewards program.
Users can earn points in Odyssey and spend them to unlock things like virtual drink-making classes or even a trip to a Starbucks coffee farm in Costa Rica. Starbucks Odyssey is powered by NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway.
Starbucks started giving away free NFT stamps in December, some of which resold for as much as $1,900 apiece on the secondary market. The firm then started selling premium NFT stamps in March, with the first drop offering up collectibles at $100 each. The drop sold out.
