On April 12, more than a month after the Solana Renaissance Global Hackathon began, nine teams from the Philippine track excelled in presenting and pitching their projects, vying for a combined total of $1 million in prizes.

What is the Renaissance Hackathon?

The Solana Renaissance Hackathon is a global event that fosters innovation within the Solana network. A segment focused on the Philippines, known as Local Demo Day, was held as part of this hackathon.

The event ran from March 4 to April 8, 2024. Participants competed for a prize pool totaling $1 million, including $50,000 for the Grand Champion. Special awards were also presented, such as the $10,000 USDC University Award and the $5,000 USDC Climate Award. Winners gained access to Colosseum’s Accelerator Program, which offers mentorship and funding.

During the hackathon, Superteam Philippines and the Department of Information and Communications Technology conducted in-person learning sessions.

Participants

  • The Armada DAO (@TheArmadaDAO): According to its developers, The Armada redefines the creation and management of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) by offering a user-friendly, no-code platform for quick customization to individual needs. The Armada facilitates swift adaptation and decentralized decision-making. Features include a no-code DAO creator, leveraging Solana’s accounts model, and promoting full decentralization. The Armada’s own DAO, The Mothership, empowers communities with ownership over features and decisions, while Fleets serve as customizable instances of the Mothership, facilitating continuous evolution and community-driven innovation.
  • Decentralized Autonomous Research (DARE) Ecosystem (@darecosystem): According to its X account, this initiative supports diverse ideas and projects, addressing the challenge of accessing funding, especially for academic research. It aims to provide opportunities for researchers to secure the funding they need within its vibrant network for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Defender of the Decentraverse Tower Defense (@playdotd): Developed by XOVOX Labs, a game studio in the Philippines specializing in voxel-based games, DotD Tower Defense is a strategic, interactive game built in the Solana ecosystem.
  • Eqseedr (@Eqseedr): According to its X account, it is a launchpad platform advocating equal opportunities for everyone through innovation.
  • Panorama Pace (@Panorama_Pace): Offers a web3 portfolio and an automatic dollar cost averaging (DCA) tool for non-custodial wallets, centralized exchanges (CEXes), and traditional financial institutions.
  • ReQuest (@requestdapp): Aims to revolutionize the event ticketing experience, particularly in the Philippines. With extensive experience as one of the largest event producers and organizers of music festivals, attracting 20,000 to 40,000 attendees, they are well-positioned to make impactful changes.
  • Ripe (@PayWithRipe): The decentralized app offers everyday crypto payments in Southeast Asia, enabling users to scan GCash and Venmo QR codes, utilizing Solana USDC to make fiat payments to merchants.
  • SolaKnows (@SolaKnowsDAO): A platform for showcasing projects and fostering communities. It supports project growth and development within the community and addresses the challenge of identifying legitimate projects, particularly those built on the Solana ecosystem.
  • Soltera Energy (@solteraenergy): Focuses on digitizing the energy sector in the Philippines. It has deployed Helium gateways across various electric utility service areas in the country using LoRaWAN-enabled smart meters and advanced metering infrastructure.

Winners

The judges for the Solana Renaissance Global Online Hackathon’s Local Demo Day included Eoin Kirwan, an experienced venture builder and founding partner of Ionic Group, with expertise in programmatic advertising, product development, fundraising, and gaming, and Nina Mendoza, also a founding partner at Ionic Group, who specializes in building high-growth businesses in the fintech and gaming space through strategic partnerships, fundraising, and revenue generation in the Southeast Asian market.
