What we know so far

As the trailer opened with a security guard seemingly poking around the Game Freak offices, he stumbled across a studio and indeed, a work in progress. With a blinding light emerging from a painting in the background, viewers were transported into a whole new Pokémon region, our first glimpse at Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

With Pokémon roaming around freely, it looks as if this latest generation could be taking a leaf out of Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ book and may see layers being able to catch the creatures freely, without having to traipse through the tall grass.

Generation 9 looks set to boast vibrant new locations, filled with deserts, cities, beaches, and grasslands for players to explore. Early indications suggest that this region could be based on Italy, with previous generations taking influence from the United Kingdom, France, and Japan.

Aside from the starters, there were no new Pokémon were there to be seen. Confirmed returning Pokémon however are: Starley, Pidgey, Bounsweet, Petilil, Psyduck, Drifllon, Combee, Meowth, Stonjourner, Pelipper, Clauncher, Swablu, Blissey, Seviper, Larvitar, Magnemite, Lucario and, of course, Pikachu

All New Starter Pokémon

Alongside this brand new trailer, we also got a look at the brand new starter Pokémon. Keeping with the traditional theme of fire, water, and grass types, the new designs look like nothing we’ve seen from a Pokémon starter before.
