Perfect Dark, the Rare-created but Xbox-owned franchise didn’t perform so well in its last outing. The recently announced reboot is promising some pretty interesting things for the future of Xbox Series X.

With the advancements in technology that next-gen hardware can offer, how far can The Initiative take things with this ambitious project? Here’s what we know about it so far.

Latest – More developers on-board

It now appears that the popular Xbox support studio Certain Affinity are being drafted in to aid the development of the Perfect Dark reboot.

They’ve helped out on titles like Call of Duty, Halo: Infinite and the recent Doom games. This news comes via Jez Corden on the Xbox Two podcast.

Crystal Dynamics Partnership

In some interesting news, Crystal Dynamics are partnering with The Initiative to bring Perfect Dark to Xbox at some point in the future.

This is great news as it means Microsoft are fully committed to its release.

Perfect Dark Release Date

There was no date or release window given for Perfect Dark during its reveal. Given how early in development the game appears to be, we could be waiting until 2023 to get our hands on it.

The Initiative are a brand new first-party studio comprised of industry veterans. Their projects are said to only be huge Quadruple-A games kind of like Naughty Dog do for Sony.

Perfect Dark Reveal Trailer

Perfect Dark was officially revealed during The Game Awards in December 2020. It was a complete left-field announcement as many had assumed it would be saved for an Xbox dedicated showcase.

The trailer was a pretty typical reveal trailer in that it wasn’t clear until late on what the game actually was. Based on the aesthetic of the previous Perfect Dark games, it was quite the change of scenery.

There has been complete radio silence on the game since the announcement which has left fans frustrated. When a franchise stays away for over a decade, they expect more than just a trailer upon its return.

Will Perfect Dark launch on Xbox Game Pass?

Yes, as a first-party title, Perfect Dark will launch on Xbox Game Pass upon its release. Xbox has created a now fixed agreement in which all first-party games will be available on Game Pass on day one.
