Date:

Today is Friday, April 12, 2024.

Brazil. The “2031 Ten-Year Electric Energy Expansion Plan” (PDE 2031), in its most recent edition, appears on the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) portal.

The PDE 2031 indicates the prospects for the expansion of the energy sector for the period 2022 to 2031, result of a broad public consultation and within an integrated vision for the various energy sources.

  • Midwest: Ethanol, Biodiesel and Hydroelectric Power Plants

  • North: Biodiesel, natural gas and hydroelectric plants

  • Northeast: Natural gas, Wind and Solar

  • Southeast: Thermoelectric, Ethanol, Natural Gas and Hydroelectric

  • South: Hydroelectric, Biodiesel and Ethanol

PDE 2031 also brought new topics, such as a whole chapter on hydrogen, in addition to box 10 – 5 on carbon pricing. It is interesting to see the following question appearing in that box, page 319: Is Brazil prepared to enter a global carbon market?

Other topics include Economic Assumptions, Energy Consumption, Central Power Generation, Power Transmission, Oil and Natural Gas Production, Oil Product Supply, Natural Gas, Biofuel Supply, Energy Efficiency and Distributed Energy Resources, Socio Environmental Analysis and Consolidation of Results.

Click below for the reports, versions in Portuguese and English. As the download is from April 2024, it is also important to follow the MME portal, as the subject of energy sources has been very dynamic lately.
