Alleima has had considerable success since it became a standalone company more than a year ago and has continued to deliver its strategy of driving profitable growth and operational sustainability. Through a series of acquisitions, including nitinol experts Endosmart, the company continues to expand its capabilities.
The medical unit within Alleima specialises in ultra-fine medical wire components that can be customised for anything from vascular therapy to biosensing and neurostimulation. So far, these components have been used for devices such as cochlear implants, pacemaker leads, continuous glucose monitors, tremor control for people with Parkinson’s or epilepsy, as well as catheters and guidewires.
As a standalone listed company, Alleima has been able to strengthen its position further as a world-leading manufacturer of advanced stainless steels, special alloys, and heating systems for the most demanding industries.
The past 12 months have seen many highlights for the company. One is an increasing demand for its solutions in electric mobility and luxury goods. To meet this growing need, Alleima is expanding its Swiss operations by moving to a larger facility. This expansion will see the manufacturing shift from a 500m2 Saint-Imier site to a 4,000m2 facility in Sonceboz, promising a larger workforce and investment in a novel automated production line. The fully automated plating line will enhance the surface treatment capabilities for electric vehicles and charging connectors, aligning with the company’s sustainability and efficiency goals.
“This is an exciting opportunity for us. Through this expansion, we will be able to meet an immediate market need and provide a base for future growth in other profitable market segments. The production will be used to support sustainability and durability in a highly efficient manner,” says Gary Davies, president of Alleima’s business unit medical at its Kanthal division.
Gustav Henriksson, operations manager of EMEA within the medica business unit, adds: “It is a large open space, which will allow for the large automatic barrel plating line and an optimal setup of the remaining equipment, and not the least our future growth.”
The transfer of operations from the Saint-Imier site will begin in early 2024, with completion expected by the end of next year.
