KeyBank taps Google Cloud for cloud banking operations upgrade

Date:

Google Cloud, Deloitte and US financial services firm KeyBank have announced an expanded partnership as the latter looks to bolster its cloud banking operations.

KeyBank operates 1,000 branches across the US

The multi-year strategic partnership will see KeyBank become one of the largest regional banks in the US to operate primarily on Google Cloud’s infrastructure.

The tech giant says the move will allow KeyBank to speed up the digitisation of its banking processes and accelerate its exit of traditional data centres.

It adds moving to the cloud will enable the rapid launch of new products and services, while also advancing KeyBank’s fraud prevention, machine learning, data analytics and anti-money laundering capabilities.

As KeyBank’s systems integrator, Deloitte will facilitate the firm’s migration from data centres to Google Cloud.

Under the agreement, KeyBank will migrate its infrastructure to Google Cloud beginning this year with the aim to have the majority of its products and services on the cloud by 2025.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian says the expansion of his company’s long-standing relationship with KeyBank “will evolve how the bank serves its clients”.

KeyBank was an early adopter of Google Cloud’s cloud management platform Anthos and open source cloud software solution Kubernetes.

“By tapping Google Cloud technologies, data, infrastructure and machine learning, KeyBank can embrace the benefits of the cloud,” Kurian adds.
