IESF Announces First Offline African Esports Event

The regional qualifying for WEC24 in Casablanca on August 17–21 is the first offline event organized by the International Esports Federation (IESF), which is thrilled to announce this.

The regional WEC24 qualifiers will take place in Casablanca from August 17–21, and the International Esports Federation (IESF) is excited to announce that it will be the first offline event held in Morocco.

For eSports throughout the continent, this tournament represents a major advancement.

African regional qualifiers

More than 300 athletes will compete in online qualifiers from June 10 to June 19 to start the regional competition. A total of 180 of them will proceed to the 2024 Casablanca IESF African Esports Championship.

The regional qualifiers in Casablanca, which will feature 47 competing countries in five game titles and seven categories, promise an amazing tournament experience. The eFootball series competition is intended to serve as a recruiting tool for prospective members of IESF. Competing for the opportunity to represent their nations at the highest level and guarantee a spot in the WEC24 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, athletes and teams from across the continent will assemble in Casablanca.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to lead the way and pioneer an offline eSports event in Africa,” the General Secretary for the IESF, Boban Totovski, said. 

“Casablanca’s hospitable reputation, rich culture and rising eSports community, and the fanbase in Morocco make it the perfect host for this historic event. Our sincere gratitude goes to the Kingdom of Morocco for generously hosting this event and for its support in developing the growth of eSports in Africa. This tournament will display the unity and collaborative spirit among national federations and athletes across the continent.”

Athletes and spectators from across the continent are already excited about this event, anticipating the spectacular competition from each nation during the qualifiers. 

According to Hicham El Khlifi, President of the African Confederation of Digital Sports (ACDS) and the Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games, hosting the IESF Africa Esports Championship in Casablanca is a milestone for African Esports. It reflects the continent’s growing passion and potential in the digital sports arena. Hicham added that this event is more than a competition; it’s a statement of progress, showcasing the talent and spirit of African athletes to the world. He stated that they are proud to lead this transformative moment for Esports in Africa.

Competing on a global scale

Competitors will compete in eFootball 2024, PUBG Mobile, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. A vital stepping stone for African esports athletes, the championship offers much more than continental bragging rights.

The prestigious 2024 World Esports Championships, which will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 11–19, will see top performers compete for coveted slots.

African gamers have an incredible opportunity to show off their skills on a global platform at the World Esports Championships, where a whooping US$1 million prize pool is up for grabs.
