Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling physical game in the UK last year, and one week into 2024, it’s this year’s best-selling game. Coming in at No. 1 for the second week in a row, Avalanche Software’s multiplatform success shows signs of slowing down nearly a year after release, with a 46% drop. A sale of the PlayStation 5 version led to a large surge in purchases, stopping the decline from hurting it too badly.

EA Sports FC 24 climbed to No. 2 following a 9% increase in sales, pushing Super Mario Bros. Wonder one spot down the chart. Mortal Kombat 11 jumped 4 spots thanks to discounted pricing on the PlayStation 5, which is especially impressive given the sequel, Mortal Kombat One, has been out for months.

Mario Kart 8 experienced a 50% drop in sales but holds onto No. 5. The rest of the top ten are regulars this high up on the chart, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Spider-Man 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Minecraft (Nintendo Switch).

Only one new release placed on the overall chart this week, The Sims 4: For Rent, an expansion to EA’s long-running franchise. Rumors have begun about a fifth entry in the franchise, but for now, add-ons keep selling well for EA.

A few notable titles re-entered the chart this week thanks to discount price promotions, including the Dark Souls Trilogy, the Mafia Trilogy, It Takes Two, Ring Fit Adventure, and the kid-friendly title Bluey: The Video Game.

Later this month, expect Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and Tekken 8 to make appearances. The first blockbuster isn’t expected until the end of February, when Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth releases on the PlayStation 5.

Below are the best-selling boxed video games in the UK for the week ending January 6, 2024.
