GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon Has Slashed its Way Out of Steam Early Access

Date:

GetsuFumaDen Undying Moon 2

GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon, which launched last year, has left Steam Early Access and is now a full game.

That’s not to say that the Early Access version of the game was shoddy, far from it. We loved getting our hands on this side-scrolling, demon-busting slash-em-up, concluding that, “…if it’s just the taste of things to come from Konami, colour me ecstatic.” And then Konami decided to celebrate Castlevania’s 35th Anniversary with a range of NFTs. Oh well.

The game is a remake of an NES title, Getsu Fūma Den, which hit the NES in 1987 but, until recently, never made it outside of Japan. It sports several roguelike elements including level layouts that change between each attempt. Dying will send you back to the beginning, so some patience is required.

The following changes have been made to GetsuFumaDen during its Early Access period:

  • Added a new playable character – Getsu Renge
  • Added the Apprentice difficulty for players finding the game too challenging
  • Added new features e.g. ‘Dismantle’ and ‘Raise Equipment Rank’
  • Added a new stage, Subspace Citadel
  • Added new enemies including Subspace Citadel boss Daidarabotchi
  • Added the Hall of Treasures, allowing players to view their defeated enemies * Added a new main weapon, Whip
  • Added the new Secret Art, ‘Weapon Rack Order’
  • Various gameplay adjustments, bug fixes and quality of life improvements to balance gameplay

Hang on… only one new level? Yes, because GetsuFumaDen’s Early Access version was more complete than most. The Early Access period seems to have been more about getting player feedback and using that to polish the game. That said, while it’s currently at version 1.0, Konami have plans to add more content.

GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is available now on PC, through the Steam Store, and also on the Nintendo Switch, having hit the eShop last week.
