Just three years after introducing its entry-level Seltos, Kia brings a significant midcycle refresh to the LA Auto Show.

The 2024 Kia Seltos aims to build on the features that helped the little crossover gain momentum in an increasingly crowded market for small SUVs. That starts with design tweaks and the addition of some new tech features. A new, sporty X-Line package also joins the grouping this coming year.

The 2024 update also sees Seltos pump up the performance factor with a 20-horsepower boost for its 1.6-liter engine.

The smallest of the brand’s crossovers “has been a mighty performer since its introduction,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “Loaded with standout style, some of the latest technology, advanced driver assistance systems, and enthusiastic performance, the 2024 Seltos serves as the perfect gateway into our bigger and more capable SUVs when the consumer is ready to step up.”

Changes for the new model

The performance upgrade is arguably the most significant news for 2024. Seltos buyers continue to have two powertrain options this coming year:

• That starts with a 2.0-liter, naturally aspirated inline-4 making 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an “intelligent” continuously variable transmission;
• The upgrade is Kia’s Gamma 1.6-liter turbo-4 that now makes 195 hp — a 20 pony increase — and 195 lb-ft. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic.

Seltos is offered with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, the AWD package adding torque vectoring. That helps direct power to the outside wheels to improve handling on twisty roads and in changing road and weather situations.

Even more updates

The other big news is the introduction of a new X-Line package for the 2024 Kia Seltos. It adds feature like a unique grille finished in gunmetal gray, 18-inch alloy wheels, a black bridge-style roof rack and more.

The midcycle refresh sees all versions of the 2024 Seltos get revised front and rear fascias, as well as the new “Star Lighting” system on the grille which makes it easier to spot the crossover from a distance.

The new year also sees Kia add optional twin video screens. At 10.25 inches, they are the largest offered in the small crossover segment. Other tech updates include the Digital Key 2 Touch system which allows an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Apple Watch to be used instead of a traditional key fob.

And the Seltos now has the ability to update maps on its optional navigation system using smartphone-style over-the-air update technology.

There’s also a range of updated advanced driver assistance systems.

Pricing for the 2024 Kia Seltos will be announced shortly before the new model goes on sale next spring.
