Fibocom has announced the expansion of its RedCap module portfolio by launching the FG332 at Computex 2024. The company also introduced a cutting-edge 5G RedCap CPE solution integrated with the newly launched FG332 and the latest Wi-Fi 7/Wi-Fi 6 technologies.

The introduction of the 5G RedCap module and RedCap CPE solution is set to accelerate 5G RedCap commercialisation. The FG332 – compliant with 3GPP R17 – is specifically designed for lightweight 5G IoT applications, boasting optimised power consumption, enhanced network coverage, and R17 small data transmission.

Simon Tao, VP of MBB Product Management Dept. and Head of MBB BU at Fibocom, said: “We are excited to unveil the FG332 RedCap module powered by MediaTek’s T300 chipset at Computex 2024. At Fibocom, we are always dedicated to leading the way in 5G innovation.”

The module is developed from MediaTek’s T300 chipset, the world’s first 6nm radio frequency system-on-chip (RFSOC) single die solution for 5G RedCap. The module supports 5G SA and offers a maximum bandwidth of 20MHz—enabling peak transmitting performance of up to 227Mbps downlink and 122Mbps uplink. Additionally, it is backward compatible with 4G, ensuring constant network connections.

“Thanks to our cooperation with MediaTek, we launched the 5G RedCap CPE solution that integrates advanced Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6 technologies, delivering exceptional data throughput and low latency,” added Tao.

“These innovations underscore our commitment to driving 5G RedCap monetisation, ensuring our customers develop FWA devices based on the latest technologies and capture the market opportunity ahead of time.”

The FG332 adopts the LGA form factor packaged at 29 x 32mm, utilising cutting-edge hardware density design for a compact PCB area, which allows greater flexibility in product design. The module is pin-compatible with Fibocom’s LTE Cat 4 module series NL668, easing concerns about hardware investment and time-to-market.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is gaining market share by enabling broadband network access anywhere, anytime. The FG332 is ideal for mass deployment in CPE (Customer-Premises Equipment) and portable mobile hotspot devices with RedCap capabilities. The integration of 5G RedCap with the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6 technologies enhances both performance and power efficiency.

The new generation 5G RedCap plus Wi-Fi 7 solution offers higher data throughput of BE3600 and lower latency, compatible with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be protocols. This enables end devices to achieve maximum speeds of 3571Mbps under concurrent dual-band conditions (2.4GHz + 5GHz). Wi-Fi 7 benefits such as 4K-QAM, MLO, MRU, and preamble puncture enhance data throughput, bandwidth utilisation, and data transmission efficiency.

For a more accessible 5G RedCap + Wi-Fi 6 option, the solution uses a hardware accelerator for power optimisation while maintaining speeds of 3Gbps. It performs well in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands, achieving a maximum of 2402 Mbps under Wi-Fi 2X2 160MHz at 5GHz and 574Mbps under Wi-Fi 2X2 40MHz at 2.4GHz. The consistent signalling and network coverage provide stable, seamless connectivity for end users.

FG332 supports regional frequency bands in Europe, North America, and APAC, with engineering samples available in Q3 2024.
