Every Construction Machine Explained in 15 Minutes

I’m not quite sure when detailed knowledge of construction vehicles became the point of focus for most toddlers. I don’t really remember it being a thing when I was little when dinosaurs, fairy tales, and farms ruled the scene. Nowadays, however, you’d be surprised how many 2-year-olds can identify an excavator before they can identify Donald Duck. I didn’t expect to be expanding this section of my vocabulary when I became a parent but here we are and, you know, it’s kind of fun! I’ve referenced this handy video from Practical Engineering on YouTube more than a few times to try to commit this stuff to memory (and prevent myself from being caught out the next time we drive past a construction site).

It takes a lot of big tools to build the roads, dams, sewage lift stations, and every other part of the constructed environment. To me, there’s almost nothing more fun than watching something get built, and that’s made all the better when you know what all those machines do.
